It’s Not DJ’s fault but What’s Coming with the UNC game

Dec 2, 2022, 8:53 AM

After much thought, I’ve come to the realization that what our real problem is that for some reason we can’t make adjustments when necessary. That includes leaving DJ in.

After 3 years, DJ is who DJ is and a significant amount of growth and change probably won’t come. So when DJ is off, receivers are off etc. and running the ball has been very effective, what do the coaches see that says keep passing and don’t run?

This is what worries me more than anything. Let’s say the OC and the DC aren’t making good in game adjustments, why doesn’t’ Dabo jump in and say, “run the ball”, keep some DB’s in the back not on the line, etc.

Are we so locked into a plan that we can’t see how to change or do we not know how to make in-game adjustments?

And putting it on DJ is unfair and gives the coaches an out for their not managing the game right.

It’s not DJ’s fault that they put him in or keep him in when he’s not being effective. That’s on the coaches. If I was DJ I would go out and try my best regardless because I’m a competitor. I fully believe DJ wants to win and is giving his best effort.

So again, why do the coaches not adjust to reality? Like keeping DJ in with a big lead over Miami when Cade could get real game reps?

We need explanations from the coaches on why they aren’t performing (and I know that’s a hard thing to ask) instead of who’s the QB.

And Dabo needs to get off the I’m the coach and I’m going to do the right thing soapbox and I’ve got a boss and they can let me go if they don’t like what I’m doing. It sounds juvenile. If the buck stops with him then he needs to SAY why he’s making these decisions or not making decisions.

It’s the coaches who are not doing enough to win, not the players. We have the talent to win and definitely should have against SC. They will say coaches don’t play but they do tell the players what to do. Like hand it off to Ship and don’t throw it. It ain’t that hard.

So why aren’t they doing what 81,500 people in the stands can see needs to be done?

Good rationale but useless on our coaches & why they do what they do.

The way they've sporadically inserted Cade is always mind-blowing Especially at NDame & backed up in end-zone and having him throw from it to his weak left side!!

Definitely an odd spot to put a freshman QB whos "not ready"

but apparently we're all just mindless secretaries without a "freakin' clue"

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Thing about DJ, and the offense in general really, is that they either come out and play well and continue to play well throughout the game, or they come out playing well and then fade as the game progresses. He never gets better as the game goes along so if it's halftime and DJ has been terrible and the offense is not doing anything you can expect the second half to be more of the same. Its easy to blame all of this on DJ but I think this is indicative a systemic issue with the entire offense.

Actually there have also been games where we started slow and…

Then picked it up late 2nd quarter going into 2nd half.
This happened more earlier in the year.
That just highlights the inconsistency…we really don’t know what will happen any given Saturday with this particular offense.
The only thing that is obvious to me is that DJ looked pretty good up until the Cuse game, but since then it’s not been fun. Turnovers and clunkiness all around since then and it hasn’t stopped.

Totally agree. It takes patience to stay with the run because it may not be pretty for awhile-even a long time. When UNC realizes all we do is run and occasionally pass to the corner for a short 1st down and loads the box and brings pressure, Street or whomever is calling needs to be able to resist passing in the man cover close safety look even though middle school coaching intuition is to pass. DJ just cannot get consistent enough for that to work. The game then becomes a battle of wills and injuries and attrition where we challenge the OL and 3 RB’s by saying You Will advance. There defense challanges that and we see who is the more dominant team.
