Now y'all see my pulse and know Im not beloved around here. I have many unpopular thoughts and opinions.
I say that to say what Im about to say is not pandering for TUs.
But as someone who grew up laughing at "Horned Frogs," the "Gamecock" is likely the worst mascot ever selected with that awful screeching cock-a-doodle-doo track they play down there. It's a helpless sound. The sound of something in need of rescue.
"Horned Frogs" is for sure bad. "Banana Slugs" is bad. "The Phoenix" is bad. "The Cardinal" is bad.
But to choose such a fitlhy, scrawny, unfearsome creature to be one's mascot is beyond understanding.

I'm a die hard Clemson fan but I do respect history I'm not I repeat taking up for South Carolina I will die a Clemson Tiger with all my heart but
this post make me think about the history of South Carolina mascots and ive got to give credit to History so with that in mind post this ..The
nickname was a reference to the fighting tactics of General Thomas Sumter, the Revolutionary War hero known as the Fighting Gamecock.
With that said i have to give respect to the mascots history but as far as respecting the history of south carolina they have none a 1969 ACC
Championship and a 2010 sec least championship so with history in mind ...but as far as the south carolina gamecocks
are concerned they can kiss my a$$

I agree about the fighting gamecocks. Where they went wrong is this out of shape, cross dressing cartoon character mascot. “Cocky” is someone’s bad idea

First time I saw them was in the 1987 Gator Bowl, which we won, and most of the crowd was in stitches watching the band's non-performance. I say non, because those people wore whatever they chose, kind of wobbled and scrambled across the field with nary a routine in mind. Hilarious! But, they could crank out some tunes. Actually, they were some fun people to hang with, as they fit with every trait of west coast space cadets, inluding the "Like, far out, Dude," "Whoa man, like duh!" LOL

A gaggle of high IQ kids having fun usually at the other team's expense.
Legend has it that once when hosting aTm, they marched out and spelled "ATM" and the Aggie fans/brown shirts LOVED it.
Then they marched a pair of "E"'s out to bookend the "ATM" and the brown shirts whipped out their little pen knives and ran them off the field.

Non of you obviously never been around having to feed/raise to a real #### or never been to a real #### fight. Gamecocks are mean bad ### mean creatures.
They represent the intent of mascots as a tough & respected competitor of their domain. That also applies to a;
Crimson Tide - a deadly oxygen absorbing tide
Green Wave - a killed rough wave that can destroy beached and houses
Horn Frog - can live in the desert has powerful jaws and very territorial will fight snakes or May other species in aiding it domain

A Gamecock Only has to know your dominant and they will do nothing but run, pick them up by the tail feathers & turn them upside down until they behave.
You have to repeat this ever so often because they forget after a couple weeks(off-season).
I’ve dealt with them since I was kid on the farm.(helped my uncle as a kid & have my own farm now)
He was the Anderson county Jailer/WW2 vet many or most of his were former fighting Gamecocks he rescued from fighting rings along with metal spurs, red glasses, leather spikes etc.

Never thought either way about the mascot, as we knew how it originated. Now, they use the abbreviated version without the "game," which I doubt would have happened back when I was at C.U,
Still call them The Chickens even jokingly in front of some of my Carolina friends here.
