It’s a miracle I don’t have clogged arteries. Growing up on a 40 acre lake

near Saluda, NC for lunch and snacks we ate potted meat sandwiches or with crackers, Vienna sausages and spam and don’t forget to add the Dukes Mayo. We washed it down with different flavors of Chek soda and tea. And I don’t want to leave out the green apples we picked off the trees. We either eat them or threw them at each other.

On Friday nights we went to Saluda HS for square dancing. Bob Ponders band played every Friday night For many years. On Saturday nights my dad would take us frog gigging. I love frog legs too. No they don’t taste like chicken but they are delicious.

Every Saturday around July 4th Saluda, NC has a big Coon Dog Festival with a parade, exhibits and plenty of food to. It grown so much they even have a 5K race, bicycle trials and more.

My uncle built this beautiful 30 to 40 acre lake near Saluda in a valley surrounded by mountains. It’s a clean spring fed lake with lots of tasty fish. The lake reminds me of Lake Jocassee. The water is crystal clear and cold. It’s deepest point is about 60 feet.

It’s a very special place for me. Unfortunately not many people fish so they have neglected the ecological balance of the fish in the lake. The landscaping is well kept.

Tryn’a figger out where that 40 acre lake is. We looked at a house on a small lake just east of Lake Summit. Lake Sheila? Nice little lake but not sure it was 40 acres. Surrounded by homes - the one we looked at was okay - but she who must be obeyed vetoed it.

Also, they just finalized the purchase of the old railroad running through Saluda from Landrum to Tuxedo/Zirconia for a bike trail, so I expect it’s going to get even busier there.

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

Sounds like a great place. We grew up in the creeks and rivers between Charleston and Edisto eating vienna sausages and spam while we were out fishing. Ate a lot of squirrels and rabbits and lots of salt water trout. Dad had a few acres so he raised Angus cows and we always had beef in the freezer too. Miss those days - and Mom and Dad.

I have had my share of squirrels and rabbits. I love rabbit. Thanks for sharing. Nothing like growing up in the outdoors.

Have a great Tigernet friends.
