Sammie vs any other student

Just would like opinions on this..
If Sammy was a regular student and not a highly visible talented receiver what would his ultimate punishment be for what he was arrested for (a misdemeanor) $1600 or so. That would end it right there. He'd pay his fine if found guilty and move on with his life. No sanctions from Clemson.
But b/c he is an athlete we want to further punish him more than the courts are willing to do. I don't know if I'm okay with that. I know he broke team rules and maybe that is the answer but the justice system has a set price for his crime and somehow I don't want Dabo to act like Swoffie did us and add to his punishment

unlike the moral defectives to our southeast, student athletes at Clemson are held to a higher standard. Additional punishment by Dabo is not only justifiable but entirely appropriate IMO.

Knowing Dabo he will be firm just hope he's fair, Sammy does not have to accept anything if he thinks its not fair, don't think he will take being made an example of,
why should he because he don't have to

be more strict in his disciplinary action because Sammy is a higher profile player is unjustified IMO. Nothing has occurred to suggest that Dabo will be anything other than fair and consistent.

nor should he. In so far as this incident is concerned, Watkins should be treated the same as any other scholarship player with a first offense.
People can say what they like about Swinney's (and Bowden too) football coaching expertise, but his dealings with player discipline and maintaining the character standards the university expects has been pretty exemplary and even-handed.

Some of them actually pay for college themselves. Do those whose parents pay their way answer to their parents? The NCAA has authority over ever one allowed to participate in the NCAA games and programs. The coach has authority over every assistant and player.

as the two drug convictions would make them ineligible for any of the state scholarship programs (Palmetto/Hope/Life). Virtually every in-state student at the university receives them.

Sammy will still have to face university court (in addition to legal system adjudication and whatever requirements the football staff places upon him) and I understand that, in the past, regular, normal students have had to leave for a semester depending on the severity of their misdeeds.
Not saying that will happen to Mr. Watkins, nor probably should it, but in addition to being a normal citizen and representing the university as a student-athlete, Sammy is still a student at Clemson and subject to their code of behavior as well.
Sammy's gotten himself into a mess I know he wishes hadn't happened.

he has only be charged not convicted, that in its self is not an admission of guilt, if he decided to challenge the charges

I know ppl wanna talk about it,and they wanna know whats
going become of this situation.But its NEGATIVE PUB.The
best thing Clemson fans can do with this matter,is let it go.Let the coaches/school take care of it.Theres plenty of other subjects out there besides riding this one like a horse (IMO).

Has anyone asked Bellamy what Sammy's punishment should probably be???? I'd certainly be interested in how Bellamy reacts to how hard-soft the punishment. Treating Sammy like the Prima Donna we have all promoted Sammy to is going to be interesting. Sammy has no idea what a Pandora's box he has opened. This decision affects the entire team since Bellamy was sent home for some very important games last season. Dabo had better think hard on this one. He will earn his money before the season even begins. We wait...

So you want to ask Bellamy's advice on the punishment? Don't get me wrong, I am glad Bellamy has seemingly righted his ship, but when he had his "issues" before the ACCCG it was just fuel to the fire with regards to his issues with not getting playing time and complaining about it on twitter and facebook. To compare his and Sammy's situation is not fair to either player. Sammy will (and should) be suspended for games in the upcoming season. We should not ask another player for his input however. The coaching staff should be who delivers the punishment.

Every body has a difference of opinion of what should or shouldn't happen with Sammy. I still believe he is a good kid, and that nothing like this will ever happen to him again. I don't have the its a big deal with the weed. It is legal in a few states, but not in SC. In college, I think that about 70% of students use some sort speed drug (legal and illegal) to keep them going for long hours during Exams. But from reading tons and tons of post about Sammy and what should happen. It has gotten to the Bla Bla Bla Bla the Bull Chit marches on. Personally, with Sammy's record as a good student, good athlete, good attitude, and an all around good person. To me, anything more than 30 hrs. community service and a heavy butt chewing along with a public apology would be over kill. His scholarship pays his way for him to play FB. To suspend him even for a quarter, the scholarship paid for what it didn't get. A 100% paid for school, for a 100% playing FB. The school, the team, and the fans loses more from a suspension than Sammy would....

You are right the "general" student would do PTI and be done.
But I dont think you can compare the two...If a retired man and a employed man violated the same rule / law. The employed man will receive additional punishment from their employer. Sammy will (and should) receive additional punishment from the AD.

if let the court's punishment be enough, what message does that send to the team. What about the players who have always wanted to try pot but scared of getting caught. Now they have the assurance they can try it, get caught and still play in the "big game" on Saturday.
I believe in Sammy and he just made an err in judgement. I believe he is a good kid and that we won't have any problems from him in the future. But he still broke the law and team rules and must be punished accordingly.

The stupid thing is Clemson has this policy known as "dual jurisdiction" or something along those lines.
It basically states that even if you get in trouble off campus, if the police department decides to report to the University then Clemson can punish you for this.
So a regular student, arrested for possession of any illegal substance (drugs or alcohol) by campus PD or Clemson City PD (last I heard Central didn't report) will be punished a second time by the school.
This may seem stupid, but it may have happened to me.
