It sure killed stand up comedy.***

I was thinking about the PC culture in this country

in the sense that a guy like Quentin Tarantino could not release Reservoir Dogs, or Pulp fiction and not expect an extraordinary backlash. This is a shame, his films danced a line between gritty realism and utter absurdity. These are films that were crafted to stand the test of time, but our culture has shifted so radically over the last 25 years that even a Movie such as "Falling Down" would be considered offensive. You don't see TNT re-aring this one much, do you?

just this liberal's 2 cents, you know I have never been PC.. But art will always respond, and find other ways to mock and mirror society. I would suggest a new Genre of horror films where the Karens and reactionaries all die off first.

There is far too much power in indignity today in the US

Both feigned and real. Most people look at PC culture and they see an issue, or a group of issues, and people protesting, cancelling, or whatever else. Personally, I never really care about the issue that's offending someone. The core of the problem is they are offended in the first place, and (often) are willing to accept a loss of freedom to end the offensiveness of whatever the issue may be for personal aggrandizement.

There's money to be made, and power gained, by this usurpation of indignity and being offended. It is practically institutionalized today in the US, and the right has finally started doing the same as the left, by taking advantage of this weakness in our society.

It's why comedy is dead. Seinfeld is correct. And it's not the ISSUES that are PC that have killed comedy, it's the POWER AND CENSORSHIP PC endorses and facilitates that is the danger. NOT the issue, the results.

When people say "That offends me", it's usually them trying to assert some form of power or control over me. My response is always "I'm sorry that offends you". And that's my honest answer. I'm not sorry I said something offensive, everyone should be free to do that. I'm sorry the person offended is trying to guilt me and assert control using their offense as an excuse to not be introspective of themselves. And most of the time the offense taken is insincere, but is nevertheless claimed as an excuse to exert power or control, or make money.

Is what it is I guess.
