I was thinking about the PC culture in this country

in the sense that a guy like Quentin Tarantino could not release Reservoir Dogs, or Pulp fiction and not expect an extraordinary backlash. This is a shame, his films danced a line between gritty realism and utter absurdity. These are films that were crafted to stand the test of time, but our culture has shifted so radically over the last 25 years that even a Movie such as "Falling Down" would be considered offensive. You don't see TNT re-aring this one much, do you?

just this liberal's 2 cents, you know I have never been PC.. But art will always respond, and find other ways to mock and mirror society. I would suggest a new Genre of horror films where the Karens and reactionaries all die off first.

It sure killed stand up comedy.***

There is far too much power in indignity today in the US

Both feigned and real. Most people look at PC culture and they see an issue, or a group of issues, and people protesting, cancelling, or whatever else. Personally, I never really care about the issue that's offending someone. The core of the problem is they are offended in the first place, and (often) are willing to accept a loss of freedom to end the offensiveness of whatever the issue may be for personal aggrandizement.

There's money to be made, and power gained, by this usurpation of indignity and being offended. It is practically institutionalized today in the US, and the right has finally started doing the same as the left, by taking advantage of this weakness in our society.

It's why comedy is dead. Seinfeld is correct. And it's not the ISSUES that are PC that have killed comedy, it's the POWER AND CENSORSHIP PC endorses and facilitates that is the danger. NOT the issue, the results.

When people say "That offends me", it's usually them trying to assert some form of power or control over me. My response is always "I'm sorry that offends you". And that's my honest answer. I'm not sorry I said something offensive, everyone should be free to do that. I'm sorry the person offended is trying to guilt me and assert control using their offense as an excuse to not be introspective of themselves. And most of the time the offense taken is insincere, but is nevertheless claimed as an excuse to exert power or control, or make money.

Is what it is I guess.

Being offended

doesn't necessarily mean you are right.

You missed my point.

My point is it doesn't matter if you're "right" or not. Using the excuse of being offended to sue someone, or muzzle free speech, or boycott a singer, band, actor, product, whatever, THAT is more dangerous than the issue causing offense. Right OR wrong.

"The road to #### is paved with 'good intentions'". We should all remember that, though we never do.

Culture will always shift and change. I mean Tarantino could not have made his movies in the 50;'s either. An if a man went into public wearing a dress an flirted with the local towns folk, he probably would nto make it home that night.

But yeah, if it has its faults, this younger generation gets offended far too easily. I have to walk on eggshells around some of the employees. I had a girl in the conference room crying because she said she never feels like she gets any recognition, and I had to remind he that we just promoted her last month. I do not get it.

Would Falling Down not get made cause of PC or because it seems normal?

There are approximately 17 people in P&R that if you told me they pulled a gun at Chick-Fil-A cause they stopped serving breakfast, I'd say "yeah, that tracks." IIRC, the film got backlash even in the 90s for the Korean store stereotype, so maybe they change that or the gang members to Proud Boys, but it would still be the same movie. I think there were already too many people who saw Michael Douglas as the hero. Can you imagine all the doorknobs today that would see him as a God loving patriot?

It would lose its splendor.

Proud Boys have deeds to their property; so he would’ve been arrested for trespassing, or just left. But cool that you consider them the same as MS13.

Even back then, his character was originally mistaken as a hero until you made it all the way through to the end. Foster is loved at first because he does all the things we kinda wish we could do--until we are shown how much pain and fear it causes others.

I can only imagine how many Trumpists would enjoy him threatening people with a gun in a fast food restaurant or blowing up a road project or causing a rich guy to have a heart attack on the golf course if this movie were redone today.

With the stuff that comes out on streaming services nowadays, it's not much different than what you listed (minus the artistic greatness).
