chart of how many transfers & freshmen were starting for the currently top 25 ranked teams (actually shows about 23 since bottom was cut off) but you can readily see the impact that the portal is having.
And, it’s very likely that Dabo & staff will be more earnest & proactive at end of this season doing the same.
Oh, Tiger Mountaineer had posted about this subject a day ago and had put up this chart which garnered a lot of comments (5 pages worth) which proved it’s a hot topic for sure.
And, he commented that he didn’t know who the guy was who had put together the chart he used and shown above..
but it’s Morgan Thomas, a Clemson grad, podcaster on his own channel as well as on You.tube, ex-military and a TigerNetter.

Interesting. I bet if you put the number #26 to 50 ranked schools on the chart you would see about the same #. 7 transfer s per school.
So, not only do you need a handful of transfers to fill gaps you ll need to attract to best players available.
If you want to break into the top 25.
Every year you ll see teams rise and fall quickly.
Mich st a good example. They went on a run a few years ago with transfers. Coach got paid. Couldn't keep adding transfers now the school is gone

The transfer portal is and will ruin college football!
At least the way it’s operated currently.
For every team who has had success with the portal a dozen had a bad experience..
The portal is not a long term answer.

during the last 4-5 years. The programs that haven’t have about 4 or so tops on avg. Almost all the schools with high #s will see their #s drop if the coach is able to stick around. Otherwise those schools will be not only out of the top 25 but also be on the list for most transfers due to another coaching change

I wouldn't want to see us in double digits every year (and with our recruiting prowess, I don't think we would need to) but if Dabo has not identified his 5 weakest positions, then he certainly is not worth millions.

If you really want to study the impact of the transfer portal, you have to show the number of transfers for all schools. You can't show a list of top 25 schools with the number of transfers and say "See...transfers are needed." What about the bottom 25? They sticking strong with their rosters?
Then you have to consider how many transfers a program had, resulting in roster spots that needed filled. You'd have to account for new coaching hires and the exodus that causes in modern college football. You'd have to account for big jumps up or down in the rankings.
Tennessee finished last season at 6. They have 8 transfers starting and now they are 20. What does that prove?
Kansas State was 14. Now they are unranked? Are they also adverse to using the portal (I really have no idea)?
At the end of the day, there are a small handful of head coaches who have won national championships, and we have one of them. I'll put my faith in that and enjoy the ride. I much prefer rooting for the program he has created than a bunch of mercenaries. I understand that other fans see it differently.
Side note...Ole Miss has 16 transfers starting!?! Wow.
