I'm looking at it as a good option for my mom's house.

m's phone situation.

I got the MagicjackPlus...good, in that you don't need to have it hooked up to a computer (assuming she has a broadband modem)....good, in that they say you can keep your existing number*...good, in that it's CHEEEAAAAP.
Work's fairly good too.

Bad, in that it relies solely on your internet connection. If it blips out while you're on a phone call, well...so does your phone call.

Also...they've got a free trial, but only if you pay w/ credit card (as opposed to a debit card). This, too, isn't mentioned until after you pay....thanks for the heads up MJ

* they don't tell you until afterwards that that's only if they've got an agreement w/ her current phone company

My MJ is hooked to a desktop I don't use.

I've had one for three years.

It is only as good as my internet service but other than that it's as good a phone service as I've ever had. It really is just $20/yr.

There are provisions for 911 on there but I've not tried them. I recommend it for everyone who needs home phone service.
