Is our New AD any better than TDP since GT people think he

Mar 20, 2013, 11:11 AM

was in command at Georgia Tech during many of their sports teams sinking to new lows...pretty much as our Base & Basketball, Golf & Soccer teams started to slide South under TDP.

Have you checked out his record at GT? One example of them disliking him was for hiring Paul Johnson and the way that program has not pleased overall (even though they owned us with that prolific offense we couldn't stop).

What say you?! GoTiGERs!

A good friend of mine that is a GT grad really liked DRad and hated to see him go. Can't blame him for the Paul Hewitt fiasco and until last year, PJ looked like a solid hire for them. I think he will do well with our resources and fan base. GT is a tough gig from so many angles.

They got Bobby Robinson, we got him. We win!

From what I understand, DRad's strengths are in fundraising

anything and it's a culture that he couldn't change. GT wants to be MIT from Monday through Friday and Alabama on Saturday. They also have very little fanbase outside of the alumni base.

spot on.....very close friend of mine

is a GT grad ('90, during their NC run), and he said that when he interned with the football program back then you could tell there was a divide there between the athletic teams (especially football/basketball) and the academic side....no fans outside of alums has been an issue for years there too. The tutoring program had to work overtime to keep the players eligible and Ross and Bobby C. were scared daily about grade issues. It's a hell of a school academically but in order to compete at a high level they have always had to work overtime in fear of kids not getting in, not staying eligible, etc., probably moreso than most D1 schools. He also told me that older alums tend to think the days of Bobby Dodd are just around the corner....his shadow is still there but no chance of it every being the same these days.

exactly right...they have two sets of fans and they sit in

distinctly different areas of their stadium. The old guard sits in the lower west..the old part of the stadium. They were fans under Dodd and think their glory days will return. The younger fans tend to sit on the east side of the stadium (closest to I-85). The fan base has a certain arrogance about it regarding their school...it's a great school but the arrogance turns off a fan who wants to simply go to a football game...it's the reason why almost every redneck in the state is a GA fan...their fanbase is horrible.

PJ did only get them as far as the National Champ Game

The same number of final four appearances as Cremins.
I know they're overall success diminished, but I would argue that has more to do with the one and done's of today's basketball landscape.. GT just couldn't keep up like Duke and Kentucky.
