Is it quicker to take 85 from Gville to CU or go in on 123?

Nov 19, 2013, 7:51 PM

APM and lil'APM are staying at the Hampton Inn at 85 and 385. We can get on 123 or go on 85 to get to CU.

Which is best? We have never come in from Gville before.

TIA.

depends on what time you are going and if

Nov 19, 2013, 7:55 PM

you'll hit traffic. if you are coming early, i'd do 85.

He didn't ask how fast you'd drive

Nov 19, 2013, 8:01 PM

He asked which road to take...ooooooooohhhh

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would say 123 is quicker

Nov 19, 2013, 7:56 PM

30 miles vs 40 miles on 85.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But he is on the 85 interchange

Nov 19, 2013, 8:03 PM

And it would be tough to get to 123

I might go 8/88 and come in through Pendleton or jump on 123 at Issaqueenah

if ya really want to know, suzi takes 85 south to exit 35,

Nov 19, 2013, 8:07 PM

turn right. go about a mile. turn left on the little road at an angle past the fire station. There used to be a silo there, but it's gone now. Then go through 4 way stop. go through next 4 way stop. That takes you to a light which, when you go straight, puts you on 88. Turn right at the stop sign close to clemson where the little filling station is & they sell peanuts on the side of the road. that takes you to 123 at the Walmart exit. or, you can stay straight and head in towards the Armory.

####. now everyone will know the shortcut.

I use the last part of that shortcut

Nov 19, 2013, 9:05 PM

But since I'm coming from the south, I approach the stoplight in question via Hwy 8 and turn left.

Nov 19, 2013, 9:42 PM [ in reply to if ya really want to know, suzi takes 85 south to exit 35, ]

Thats my trademarked route! :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The name of the road you turn left onto is called "Major Rd"

Nov 20, 2013, 1:05 AM [ in reply to if ya really want to know, suzi takes 85 south to exit 35, ]

After you get off on exit 35 and turn right. Then turn left onto Major Rd and turns into 88 as mentioned.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yep. go past mr. long.

Nov 20, 2013, 4:45 AM [ in reply to if ya really want to know, suzi takes 85 south to exit 35, ]

Nov 19, 2013, 8:03 PM

I-85 is quicker if you speed (nothing crazy) about 10ish over. Cops are less likely to burn you there than 123, there's also fewer traffic lights on 85 clearly and you do not have to drive through Easley.

Crump <3 $EC

Normally take 85... took 123 for FSU game

Nov 19, 2013, 8:07 PM

Granted I arrived very early, but 123 seemed a lot quicker

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

depends on time you come. ive

Nov 19, 2013, 8:29 PM

Gone every which way you can get too Clemson. The best answer ifs to know the all because it is all about traffic. I would go 123 if I were you. Even when I go mountain biking at isaqueena I go 123.

Depends on where you are in G'ville and what time

you travel.

"Gamecocks aren’t ready to take college football by storm just yet. They’re not even ready to compete in their own state – Clemson will still own the territory. Gamecocks fans would be smart to keep their heads buried until that time. Avoid talking trash to a much better Clemson program.” -Dustin Tackett

Nov 19, 2013, 9:04 PM

Depends on how early you plan to leave for Tigertown. Between 8 and 9:30am then you should be fine going 123. It has always been faster for me to go down 123. You could also take 81 to 88 and come in that way. You would bypass Easley going that way.

Start flying into CEU.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

85 is faster, but 123 is the shorter route. Too many lights...

Nov 19, 2013, 9:39 PM

for me... I've driven both many times and will never take 123 again. I like moving rather than sitting.

I go 123. DSGriff and Suzi are right about 88, several

Nov 19, 2013, 9:41 PM

variations of that, coming out in Pendleton or cutting over to 123. Look at a map. But getting through Easley isn't that bad. Also depends on where you're parking and what side on campus you should be on to get there, and if you're late enough that it matters. Get some boiled peanuts on the way in.

123 is quicker.
Last year I took 85 and my brother took 123. We left greenville area at the same time and he beat me by 10 minutes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I concur ....there are definitively

Nov 19, 2013, 11:27 PM

Less traffic lights on I85

If you are getting to exit 19b by 8am or a few minutes before.... You'll drive right in
