Is being Jewish a race in you opinion?

Would that make me half Jewish and the other half Caucasian? I only bring this up because Whoopi is in deep doo doo for her comments. Also, Hitler thought it was a race. Anyway, what do you think? I feel really white but I am not sure now.

who didn't 'believe in electricity.' Ms Boles or Bowles, I can't say because I never saw her name written down, lived across the street from my grandparents. Remember, I'm 70 and this was probably close to 63-64 years ago.
I remember Ms Boles because she had a worm bed beside her back porch and when my dad would go fishing that's where he would get bait. Ms Boles put table slop including coffee grounds in that spot so redworms thrived there.
Ms Boles had lamps, probably kerosene, for lighting and burned wood to cook and warm her tiny two room house. I can't recall her water source but my memory includes a pump in her kitchen though I can not say for sure that was the case. It might have been out back, I just can't remember. My guess is she was probably in her late seventies or early eighties when I knew her. I remember her son was called 'B.'
I have thought a lot about Ms Boles over the years and wondered at times why I remember her so vividly. You and other nonbelievers remind me of her saying 'I don't believe in God or the Bible or The Son or the Holy Spirit, so let me testify here and now.
My God is to you like electricity. Believe it or not one day you will touch something which touches you back. I would liken His Spirit to a 220A circuit. It won't just touch you it will grab you. You will become the ground.

Maybe, maybe not but that's as close as I can get to describing that whether or not someone believes in God or the Truth of His Word makes them any less powerful to change one's mind.
God chooses us, we do not choose Him. No one volunteers to be the ground on a live three phase circuit.

I know where Whoopi was going, but I think she didn't get there, and took a bad detour.
Hitler actually made them into a race. His anger and "racism" wasn't over race, but over their refusal to buy his paintings when he was a starving artist. A scapegoat for his lack of artistic abilities or success. Jews had money, were mostly employed, educated, successful, wealthy, and he hated them for it and made them into the reason for his failures.
Whoopie, though, made the mistake of saying the persecution was over treating people bad, or whatever. It was off the wall dumb, but she said it. She should have clarified that it was about a religion and persecution of a culture that was TRANSFORMED into a persecution based on a false racial analogy. It is easier to persecute a group if you can tie them to, or make them into a race. And that's what Hitler did, to achieve his revenge on them for the animosity he harbored against them for him basically being a poor and mediocre artist.
And we really need to be careful about this and study and learn about it. Because the same thing can happen in the US, making ideologies, cultures, religions, even politics, into a racial designation where it otherwise would not be one.
Then you had Hitler also promoting an Aryan race, of blonde haired, blue-eyed NORDIC types of people, as the ideal German "race". It's all just a mechanism for hate and agendas. When most people are poor, hungry, deprived, and basically destitute, compartmentalizing those who have welath, success, and whatever into some entity, whatever it is, is a mechanism to promote hatred and aquire power and control. Hitler made Jews into a race, which they were not, then made Germans into a race, which they are not. And it worked exactly as he envisioned.
I just don't see people by race. Honestly, our greatest differences, as Americans, are mainly differences in education, and wealth. The two go hand in hand. If I had to pick one, it would be education though.
Whoopi had a great opportunity to open up a very useful discussion, but then just blew it. I agree with her that Jews are not a "race", as I see them. If you had to pick one, caucasian I guess.

For FOUR long years I was in a RACE with some of my med school classmates, 2/3 of whom were Jewish. One of my good Jewish friends, after I was honored with Alpha Omega Alpha membership (Medical School Honor Society) (only the top 10 students are chosen; I was fourth in my class), hardly spoke to me after I was inducted!!
As many probably know, and something that I admire greatly, Jewish students tend to be hard working, driven and relentless in achieving academically. However, I was so disappointed in my friend. However, we now talk occasionally and I've forgiven him/she.
I will say this, my friend was clearly an outlier. The huge majority of my classmates were very friendly, very bright, accommodating and pretty 'regular'. We were all in the same Fox Hole, trying to survive the rigors of the path we chose!! Hell on earth academically for FOUR years! Some days I almost miss the memories!!

can be Jewish, and there are people who are ancestrally Jewish, but do not practice Judaism. But in the context of the holocaust, Hitler was trying to eradicate what he perceived to be an entire race. Whoopi was not wrong, but there are problems with her argument and her position that go beyond context in this case, as far as I'm concerned.

It is at least and at most a heritage. There is an example in the OT Bible of a particular pronunciation of a word being the only way of distinguishing a 'Jew,' from a foreigner, perhaps spy, in the mist of the people. While they were commanded not to mix with the heathen of their day it was always about the worship of false gods. God does not respect race and differentiating between us one another.
In the context of Hitler, Germany and the COI at that time and to Goldbergs' comments, she was wrong. Those of the Jewish faith were not a particular race of people, they were just not Aryan. They may have been hated by the white nationalist for their belief in The Lord God and the creator but I do not believe I've ever heard an opinion that the reason they were hated was anything other than the color of their skin.
I have heard that Hitler was christian but I've also heard that Trump, Biden, Obama and Bill Clinton were Christians. Imo, all were political posturing for support.
I would say Goldberg's opinion on the holocaust is a minority opinion.

I don't think Whoopi was trying to be a tool, but she would have been better served to leave the subject alone.
Hitler spread the idea of the Jewish "race" which was not correct. The tens of thousands of Ethiopian Jews who have immigrated to Israel are certainly vastly different looking than most of the other Jews living in Israel.
Furthermore, Conservative and Orthodox Jews do not consider a person born to a couple where the mother is not Jewish, to be Jewish. To become Jewish, such a person must convert. If the mother is Jewish, the child is considered Jewish, so race becomes rather tricky here too.
Whoopi was almost cavalier in describing the Holocaust as a white on white thing, however, she was correct that there is not a Jewish race, notwithstanding the Austrian water color artist's beliefs.
Additionally, Hitler if he had prevailed would have wiped out people of African ancestry in short order most likely. It wasn't just an intramural squabble.
