In the eyes of the world…

our football program is regressing. Fading. Analysts are picking an FSU team that we beat the crap out of in Tally last season to beat us, take the lead in the ACC, and be the primary darkhorse for the CFP. While Clemson, a team that was in the CFP SIX SEASONS IN A ROW until 2021 isn’t even considered to have a shot… by anybody.

We lost some asst coaches, but other programs seem to replace half their staff every freaking season and are still able to maintain continuity. A program that has gone to the CFP ALMOST EVERY ####### SEASON and is able to pay what Clemson can pay should be able to attract the top assistants. So why the decline?

I think it’s mainly about player eval and development. We were blessed to have two plug-and-play NFL QBs who didn’t need development - just experience. We had several other 5* QBs who underachieved or were straight busts. Chase Brice should have been at CLEMSON in 2021 and 2022 competing for CFP wins. Instead we put all our eggs in a Ukelele case and they got broken by UGA in the first game of 2021. The NFL-stacked DL of 2018 slipped into the underachieving disgrace we saw last season. Wide receivers?? No need to go there.

We find out a LOT about Dabo and what he’s got left in the tank this season. We also get to find out if anyone on our staf knows how to develop a QB with plenty of smarts, athletic ability and raw talent. This season will tell the tale.

I wouldnt say we beat the crap out of them. Go back and look

at the stats. We also did not finish that game well. Happy to win. Take it and move on.

We were spanking that a$$ thru 3.5 quarters

Then, as usual, we took our foot off the gas and let them back in it. Should have won that game by three TDs or more.

What the hail are you talking about?!?!?

Vegas has us at seventh best odds in the country. This site has us AHEAD of Fl St!

Another site at seventh best odds
https://www.vegasinsider.com/college-football/odds/futures/

MGM has us tied at seventh best odds with Fl St.

Here’s a gem from a Bama site who hates Clemson that has us making the CFP with no mention of Fl St.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Agreed.

Given our history over the last 8 years…

I would hope that we would AT LEAST be in the top 5-6 as a CONSENSUS in the college football prognostication realm. Are you encouraged that a few sites and some bama board posters rate us as high as 7? Seriously??

Face it - we’re fading with a $9M/yr coach. This is the season.

You're statement...

"While Clemson, a team that was in the CFP SIX SEASONS IN A ROW until 2021 isn’t even considered to have a shot… by anybody."

...is completely false. Everyone in the country is giving us a shot. You say you expect to be 5-6 but that 7 means we dont have a chance? Seriously? After 2 straight stagnant years with DJU I think the national pundits have us exactly where we are supposed to be. Which is right in the mix where we belong with a bit of hedging due to the unknown variables of a new OC and new-ish starting QB. But to say no one is giving us a shot is flat out ignant. Everyone is giving us a serious shot and everyone knows Clemson is and has been one of the best football teams in the country for the last decade+.

coming in behind FSU in the ACC and missing the playoff. Projecting us in the Peach Bowl.

I hope we exceed those expectations. I believe there’s no reason why we SHOULDN’T do better than that. My original post was about perceptions, not what ought to be.

If Dabo had sat back and not made changes after this past season I could see your point. But he didn't, Dabo went out and got the best OC in the country, putting the whole coaching staff on notice. Old Testament Dabo is back and he's hungry. We missed on a QB and had a pandemic disrupt recruiting. We're in good hands.

Yep I think the pandemic hurt us as much as the offense the last two years

Hope you’re right Johnny boy…

One thing this stretch has taught me…. Just win.. Doesn’t matter by how much. You go 12-0.. you are rankled number 1 or 2. You’re in the playoff. Win again. And you’re in the natty. Just win. I thought we were tanked after losing to Pitt at home a few years back. Just win and everything takes care of itself. Even if we are left out and relegated to the Southern Conference…. It doesn’t matter. They gave Cincy a shot.. They will absolutely give Clemson a shot. We won’t be left out. We will prevail. But in the meantime.. just WIN!

Finebaum has picked Clemson to be a playoff team this upcoming season. He is really high on Clemson. I am not sure Clemson is being ignored by everyone.

Oh, I feel better now...since Finebum is picking us!***

It worries me when Finebumm talks positive about Clemson? He never does that ☝️

I believe covid hit Clemson harder than most football programs. It definitely hurt recruiting. Dabo's
recruiting model is based on on campus and face to face interaction whereas others not as much. Couple that with assistant coaches leaving it was kind of perfect storm.

Some might be judging the Tigers by what they saw in the last game--the bowl.

Our problem was simple.

Aug 12, 2023, 6:06 AM

We went two years without a quarterback. We had a series of failures in recruiting. IDK, it it was that no one elite QB wanted to come to Clemson or if the best QB's available didn't fit our culture.

We had several QBs and they just couldn't do the job.
