will get a pretty good understanding of our pitching this year. It was bad. Even though we led the league in fielding, we gave up the most hits, second most home runs, etc. There are a lot of stats there,so I may have some of these numbers mixed up, but we about 10th in walks, 7-8th in picking off runners, balks, wild pitches(Heck, and that is with the best catcher in the conference in Kieboom with only 2 passed balls all year),hit by pitches. We gave up more hits than anyone in the league, and were at least 8th in SAC bunts,Sac Flies.

Flip over to the offensive side and it is about the same. We were second in home runs and maybe second in base hits, but way down the list in RBI, so that leads me back to a post I made earlier and got hammered by one poster, that we had to have led the league in getting picked off base.

When you look at these stats, and the fact that we finished about 7th or worse in nearly every category, it is astonishing that we came as close as we did in Columbia last week.

Oh, and even though our fielding percentage led the league,

our ERA was 7th. Just think how high it would have been if the defense had not made all of those plays.

Overall record
ACC regular season record
ACC tournamrnt record.
Regional record.
Close,but no cigar.

Baseball isn't necessarily about one thing. It's about putting the best product on the field with the talent at hand.

The word for the 2012 Clemson Baseball team would have to be consistency. A lack of it, to be precise. Yes, our pitching was pretty average when you look at the big picture, but there were times/games where it was really really good. Clemson countered with excellent defense to help our average pitching. When our pitching was on, we had a much better day than otherwise. We were a very wishy washy team on the hitting front, too. The reason we were so close in Columbia was because the bottom half of our batting order suddenly started hitting a little bit more (Stolz for example). This combined with our pitching having a decent outing aside from the last South Carolina game where we were all but out of pitchers and couldn't get our starter through the first inning.

Clemson was a really good team this year; we just lacked consistency. When we were hot, we were extremely hard to beat. When we were not so hot, well, we got beat by Wake, Coastal, etc.

If we shore up one of the two parts of the team that lacks consistency (pitching or hitting), we will win 40 games next year and have a good shot at Omaha. Both, and we win 40 games and we go to Omaha and have a great shot at taking it all.

i'll have what you are drinking. sure hope one, or both, facets of our game pick it up. we were without a doubt, consistently inconsistent.we are a better baseball program than what we showed this year, and hopefully, will use this as a stepping stone to getting back to where we are historically at.
