Impact Freshman

What true freshman on offense and defense make the biggest impact this year? My picks are Cornell Powell and Tre Lamar. Powell has the potential to make a huge impact in the return game as he showcased in the Shrine bowl. Lamar will be competing for a starting spot opening day of camp and provides size and athleticism at a position of need.

Big Dex could very well be the guy on D as he will demand double teams and will see substantial time as a freshman

Hard to see them double teaming Dex with Wilkins on the line. Well at first anyway.will be interesting to see how quickly other teams pick up on us having two freaks in the middle, and how they deal with that fact. GO TIGERS !!!

I still predict that Huggins will also be a beastly factor. There will not be enough weapons on the opposing offenses to account for what we bring. They will have to run a "Hurry Up" offense whether they want to or not. I like it!

CP, Lamar, Dex, and Shaq Smith... RS Freshmen to make an impact will be KT Chalmers
I also feel like LaSameul Davis will have big impact his first year, not too sure tho.

I am not disagreeing at all, but the word is that he has put on weight. After a year of prep and hitting the weights he is 205? Was he 190 when he committed out of HS?

True he's thin. Think it's around 215 now. But Vic Beasley was 225 most of his career at Clemson. And Davis has the wing span of a condor. He could see time this year. Time will tell where his head is. GO TIGERS !!!

You are correct. I coached against Lesamuel Davis when he was a junior at Bamberg. He had his hands full with a 250 lb tackle that we had who was really not very good. He made maybe two good plays against a team that went 3-8 in 2A football. I'm not being a Debbie downer, I just think the kid will be another Dodd hopefully. He will contribute as a senior. However, he is probably much bigger and faster than he was 3 years ago and could be a baller.
I just wouldn't get my hopes up about him being a star over all the other super talents that we have.

Strength and build are WAY behind where Beasley was at 225. Bench press is about half of Vic's. He's a project, not likely an early contributor except maybe special teams

I see big Dex being the most likely on D. Linebacker is harder to come right in and play, not to mention the guys in front of him. But Anthony Simmons showed it can be done. Lamar is a freak. But he may see time at end. Dex will play. GO TIGERS !!!

True, but Goodson is gone, so why not? It seems Trey is in a perfect spot to earn the job, especially after enrolling early.

I'm going with redshirt freshman Chad Smith. The kid has gotten bigger and is steady and ready to play. Tre and Rashan will battle like all get out and will get playing time. In all honesty, Im not concerned about the offense or the defense, I'm anxious to see what improvements are made on the KO and KOR teams.

I agree he's an insane talent and just a freak physically. And I'd love to see him do it. If he can pull a Simmons and play right away , he'll improve our athleticism at linebacker. I feel it's easier to say Dex due to position. But tre lamar and shaq Smith are just amazing players that will dominate. The only question is? How soon. GO TIGERS !!!

Big Ben has taken Chad Smith under his wing, and will do the same with Rashan and Lamar. Our LBs are strong and in good hands for the next 3-4 years.
