Might be hyperbole but I think Dabos

Pride and stubbornness is gonna drag everything he's built straight into the gutter.
The trajectory is heading down quick and based on all comments from him and his staff, they don't see much wrong but execution. Oh and DJ does no wrong.

path. I don't think we're going to end up a smoldering ruin.
I do think though, that the program is going to have to unfortunately get to a state that has no choice but to humiliate and humble Dabo to the point he can't come out and spout stats to assuage his ego. To a guy like Dabo that's probably a Tommy Bowden-esque 6-6 season with some inexplicable losses to a WF, Duke, or similar, along with some disgruntled current or recent players expressing their displeasure with the staff.
The day that happens, I think he snaps out of the ego trip and goes back to work and hungry Dabo returns.

Drop next yr, will destroy recruiting and will cause a lot of transfers. That will take at least 2 more yrs from then to recover. Especially with no use of the portal. Someone needs to get in his ear imo

Corporate ticket holders diminish. Ticket prices go down. IPTAY might actually have to offer some package deals to move tickets. You can get a Lot 2 pass again for less than a year's CU tuition. Every kid from upstate NY doesn't think we're their first choice for college anymore.......
There are a million upsides to that couple-year hiatus scenario.

I think we are now at the low point.

I can't say we'll be much better next season but I do not think we will get any worse. Our worst QB in recent memory is better than DJ. We'd have beaten USCe with KB or Cole.

Sad to say, I had very low expectations with DJ this year. Then, I started to sway to the side that said he was better. That he was a good QB and we were watching his transformation into a star... I fell for the lie. Too easily too.
Just thinking DJ will return and be the starter next year has already killed my hope for next years CFB season... at least where Clemson is concerned.

Dabo’s comments appear inexplicable given availability of performance metrics

Seems some additional explanation to sports journalists’ questions and fans concerns is warranted. The above reproach attitude fuels the embers that more significant issues exist within the program. More honest and candid performance evaluation and communication is needed.

seeing some outright dissociative behavior. When ego gets out of hand, that can happen. We have a very good defense, and we have a very good running game, yet when faced with 8-for-29 stats (and our best running back getting two touches in the last four possessions) the bizarre response is to find some example of less-than-perfect play from those units to explain away 8-for-29. He basically called out players by name for their mistakes to cover over 8-for-29 by another player. That is a remanufacturing of what we all saw.
I get coach speak. I get that there are things they know that we don't. But what we have heard in the last 24 hours sounds weird. Ego can supersede reality. If I was the - ahem - "safety" called out in response to a question not about me but about 8-for-29, I might be looking to go elsewhere. Ship called out the coaching staff in a way that they can't do anything about. Sounds like he's seeing the same thing.

the two biggest differences right now, from 2 to 8 years ago, is
1. One of probably the greatest coaching staffs of all time parted ways. Nothing to be done about that...they deserved head coaching jobs.
2. The QB stats are not very good. Need a QB. This can be easily resolved with the kind of recruiting Clemson does.
#1 is a harder nut to crack to fix it. Dabo's own famous quote (I think I have it right) is "the fun is in the winning". So he reflects that...when Clemson doesn't win, he doesn't look like he's having much fun.
Dabo is one of the greatest head coaches in college football history. I wouldn't worry about him. If he can get a QB and the right coaches, then Clemson will avoid the ghastly horror of losing more than 1 game in a season.

Nothing lasts forever. What Clemson did from 2015 to 2020 was arguably the greatest 6-year stretch in college football history. The only reason they didn't win twice as many championships is because one of the other greatest 6-year stretches was happening at the same time in Tuscaloosa.
It was also really, really hard to do. And a lot of people probably don't really see that enough, because Clemson made it look easy at times.
