If ND adds strength to the ACC, then why up the exit fee?

It shows that it doesn't, it will make members want to bolt all the more.
This will screw us out of money, I'm sure of it. The biggest loser will be the ACC team that won't get a bowl b/c NC will take a spot away. Expect them in the Chick Fil A bowl soon.
ALso, how will that bowl money be split up?

B/C now you can get every school on board to vote for a $ amount that high. Couldn't do that before. Let's face it, no matter how strong you say you are as a conference, if you don't up the exit fee to astronomical levels, people will always question stability. Now that the conference is solidified it was very easy to get all schools to vote for that $ figure, so you need to go ahead and do it.

The SEC has no exit fee and no one questions their stability.

I don't think the SEC has an exit fee at all.

To keep ND from jumping perhaps?

This way their only option for a football ever being in a conference is in the ACC.
I think everyone agrees that eventually being an independent will put teams on the outside looking in.

is it possible for them to join another conference (say B1G) in football and remain in the ACC for all other sports? Not that I think it would happen, just wondering if it was even possible.

you don't get to be the President of a University or even President of a Girl Scout Tribe if you would contractually allow that.
But its possible.

I look at just the opposite, it shows that everyone is as committed as they said they were while all the "rumors" were circulating.
It does nothing but strengthen the conference. It'll be a little harder for the rumor mongers to start crap this off season. I do understand how this move is gonna pi$$ off the conference envy crowd though.
