I'll answer that! Beaufort is a better choice. Unfortunately we're going to have to sell our Bull Point Plantation home soon. Makes me so sad. HH is way too commercial in my opinion. Just one solid traffic jam. But the entire area is lovely.

My two favorite places are hard to beat. The real Death Valley on game day AND the Blue Ridge Parkway. I’ve been to a lot of places in my 81 years of living but the Parkway ranks right at the top. I love to sit by the waterfall on this tract that I have and enjoy a little Buffalo Trace on occasion. Life is wonderful and I hope you all enjoy every minute of it.LBB certainly does and I salute him.

Beaufort (or nearby Lady's Island & Fripp Island) would be MY places in this area to semi or fully retire since so small & inviting with little traffic (as compared to HHI or Bluffton).
You have boating facilities, couple of major major marinas, tour rides on horse drawn buggies, the renowned BIFF (Beaufort International Film Festival) held in Feb for 5 days to see custom-made & new films from film makers around the world who show their shorts, long & documentaries..
Nice 2-3 block long main street to walk on day or evening, SAFe environment, the lovely park area off main street on the ICW with many wooden shaded swings and 6-9 restaurants yards away..other great little restaurants like Breakers & Wren & Blackstone & Herban..
Various Spring/Summer festivals, air show, etc..
Historic downtown homes..safe bicycling & jogging lanes..friendly locals..shag dance club..lots of nice rich Yankees mixed in with good solid Southern folk..
plus cute Port Royal Village several miles away with a great seafood place by water..few Usc satellite buildings for classes..
and some really well-designed & laid-out residential neighborhoods nearby..
And only a 45 minute scenic ride to HHI for the day OR about 60 minutes north to Charleston & Mt Pleasant ..plus plenty of major shopping places on bypass.
Lastly, about a 4+ hour interstate ride to DV #1 for games.
Oh, you may see Forrest Gump around town or The BiG CHILL film location house And Author Pat Conroy says hello!

Good stuff! Got some friends building at Port Royal. they mentioned that Safe Harbor is building a new marina there. We're looking at that as well

Bill, I was down there Monday over at Cat Island. Beaufort is indeed a beautiful place. I was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in 1971 ...... changed a bunch since then!

style. If I were that wealthy and still physically able, I would be on a golf course every day.
That was how I rationalized it years ago when I gave up fishing and took up golf again. I could never seem to find the fish, but I could ALWAYS find the golf course.
