I think this guy knows what he is talking about. He was the first to report USC/UCLA to the B1G. He has a connection inside the conference somewhere.

Listening to it again, here are some takeaways that he is adamant about (which makes me think he knows more than he is saying).

1. FSU is gone. They are going to write a check. He doesn't say when, but he is confident they are gone. Says B1G won't talk to them until they have notified the ACC.

2. Says Cal/Stanford to the B1G is not going to happen anytime soon. He says this with conviction, and doesn't want to say more.

3. Says the Big 4 schools the B1G and SEC will come after are FSU, Clemson, Miami, and UNC.


If you start listening at the 29:00 mark, it gets really good. Around the 1 hour and 7 minute mark, he takes a call from a lawyer. Really, really interesting conversation. They believe that FSU could write a check for anywhere between $500 million to $750 million.

There was a report that FSU is exploring private equity deal to gain access to that kind of buyout money. It’s never been done before in the context of a university and athletics so that’s uncharted territory. I actually think FSU is desperate enough to pursue it. No idea how the private equity will get there investment back. Maybe they agree to share other university revenue streams (ie research grants/patents, medical school/hospital revenue)?

If it were only 50 million, schools would just write the check.

Moving from the ACC to a conference with 30 million higher a year payout would pay for itself in less than 2 years.
