I Was Just Thinking About Our Two Losses

And it hit me, yes DJ sucked bad at times and playcalling was total asz at times. But, a common element in both losses was tied directly to the punt and punt return game.
- At ND the blocked punt set the tone and broke the team - Generally, inability to flip field w/punting most of the year - Against cooters the fumble of the return and the dominance of the coot punter killed us
I think we could have overcome and won both of those games had our punt game overall been even average.

You are not wrong. Special teams needs to become a point of emphasis. We lost the national championship game in 2016 vs Alabama on a kickoff return for TD and lost possession onside kick. There are other examples including ones you presented. It seems special teams could improve with more emphasis. We did block some punts this season, but then we never challenged the gamecock punter even once.

Special teams play does make a difference. Maybe, that’s why they are referred to as “Special Teams”.

every year of Dabos tenure. I'm worried about next year without Potter because he was really the lone bright spot on ST.

While I generally agree with your statement, I’ve never seen special teams as bad as what Tommy Bowden put on the field. Dabo has improved them immensely since then

Yes but when you can score at any moment or up by a few tds you can get away with mistakes. I honestly cant think of a worse QB to rely on or try to come from behind with than DJ.

The first two holding calls on a WR on the first possession set the tone for the game.
Execution sucked.
The holds didn't affect the play and they turned decent gains into the punt that was blocked (if I remember correctly).
As much as you can blame DJ the WR have not been doing their jobs at times.

Last January...I said Dabo MUST go get a punter out of the transfer portal. Heck he should have signed one last December. It killed us again.

Don't forget the net-1 yard punt in the second half where South Carolina scored a touchdown.

Wasn’t just those games. I would like to see how many times we pinned opponents inside the 10 (or even better 5) yard line and how many times we started drives there after punts on the season. I really don’t like the rugby punt. It may be something to use every once in a while but not the majority of the time.

Dabo and Clemson have purposefully avoided ST play for many years. It's been unneeded to win the ACC and enter the playoffs. It creates additional recruiting and coaching responsibility. Additionally, special teams play is high risk/high reward. Dabo knows he has far more recruited talent than other ACC programs on Offense and Defense so Clemson chooses to opt out.
