IF Bame & UGa keep winning, & the only loss is in CCG

Oct 30, 2017, 12:15 PM

so one of them will be 13-0 and the other 12-1, we will then truly find out how important the committee thinks the conference championship games really are. Personally, I think the CCG loser should almost always be eliminated, especially if there are other CCG winners with only one loss. For example, if Washington finishes 12-1 and wins their CCG, they should get in ahead of any 12-1 CCG loser.

Auburn will get one of them...perhaps both! That would be outstanding chaos to take both down! And this weekend, Geaux Tigers! (Not holding my breath, though)

I agree. Auburn beats Georgia.

And then Auburn goes to the SEC championship game to face UGA again. And if Auburn goes 3-0 against UGA x2 and Bama, they will be in.

I do not think the POC will schedule a rematch of two...

Oct 30, 2017, 12:23 PM

teams that played in the past month. Furthermore, UGA has a QB who can't beat you with his arm. Bama will load the box and crush that boy's dreams.

The speculation of a close loss by UGA is a delusion. There are a half a dozen teams who play good enough defense to crush UGA. That will become more obvious in the next few weeks.

The description of UGA applies to Bama, too. That's why I like Auburn's chances...and LSU's, too (but less)

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep. It's a 60 minute game. UGA will keep it close

with Bama for three quarters and then Bama will woodshed them in the fourth quarter.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You should have to be better than 1-1 against the top 20

Oct 30, 2017, 12:29 PM

to make the CFP.

Even if your only loss was to Bama

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they are not going to let a team that lost it's CCG in, it

Oct 30, 2017, 12:40 PM

would set a precedent and essentially marginalize the CCGs...That is NOT going to happen

didn't they do this last year by taking Ohio State?

Oct 30, 2017, 1:09 PM

they didn't even get the opportunity to play for the conference championship.

Also, hasn't the committee said that they won't allow extra games like conference championships to hurt a team's resume?

If they don't count the championship game...then UGA and Bama won't have a resume..

if they both beat AUburn, then AU is out of the top 25 and neither will have played a team that finishes in the top 25 except for UGA with ND

UGA's win @Notre Dame will disappear?

Oct 30, 2017, 1:27 PM

Alabama will be playing elimination games @ Auburn and then in a very hostile Atlanta environment vs UGA. Also, if you think that the committee will overlook an Alabama team that played 3+ months of undefeated football, you're mistaken. An Alabama loss in the SECCG would almost certainly ensure the SEC is the first conference to place two teams in the playoff.

UGA's schedule may look easy, but they still have to play Auburn and Georgia Tech, two of our top 4 wins, and have already locked up some big wins. The Notre Dame win will only look better as the Irish are now cruising. Mississippi State looks to be on their way to an 8 or 9 win season. UGA has dismantled their division rivals and will continue to do so this week. You can't fault a team for division foes being terrible. Every team remaining on on UGA's schedule has a winning record and look like they will be 8-9 win teams, save for GT.

Good Wins > Good Loses. That's one thing the committee has

Oct 30, 2017, 1:22 PM

been consistent about. Whoever loses that game is at a disadvantage against almost any other 1 loss team it will be judged against as far as Quality Wins

Best Is The Standard

Re: IF Bame & UGa keep winning, & the only loss is in CCG

Totally agree! The object of the Championship Playoffs is to crown the best team in the country. If you do not win your conference championship, then you are not the best team in the country ..... not even the best team in your conference.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I understand your sentiment, but I'm not in favor of absolutes.

Oct 30, 2017, 1:28 PM

You take the four best teams. That's it. Even if all four from the same conference. Any conference.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I understand your sentiment, but I'm not in favor of absolutes.

Oct 30, 2017, 2:49 PM

....and how are you going to determine that the best four teams are in the same conference? That's the same old garbage that we have seen from the SEC (and Big 10), when they beat up on each other and people just figure that they have to be head and shoulders above the other conferences. Remember when Mississippi State was #1 and 3 other SEC teams were in the top 10? How did that work out?
