I understand what the coaches are all saying, I just can not

Sep 9, 2014, 2:16 PM

get on board. But I will trust that they know better than us fans. I just really want to see them beat FSU! And you know what if Cole Stoudt can do that for us then I will shut up. I just wonder why not one time last year did Stoudt go in for Boyd when he clearly was not playing well, if he is that good maybe he could of helped us last year as well. I am just ranting I know just want the best player to play and in my eyes that is Watson.

I'm sure he improved since last year, most players do.

He put on 20 lbs or so also. You could say the same for Boyd between 2010 and 2011.

This is JMO - but I think the coaches wanted Boyd to break every dang record at CLEMSON - and to do that, he had to remain in the game. Boyd also had an knack for playing extremely well in crisis situations - which seemed to be the entire season.

Either that or the coaches were heavily sedated and had no idea what they were doing.

Again - JMO.

I agree with the second statement. JMO

i guess looking scared to death against s carolina doesn't qualify for "playing well in crisis situations"

I do feel like Dabo and the program overall went

above and beyond with Tajh throughout his playing career here as a reward to him for saving the 2009 recruiting class and for making the commitment to our program that he did. As promised, they touted him for the Heisman, and stuck to that commitment with him when he struggled in hopes he could come back and muster the stats necessary to vie for the award and get drafted.

IMO Tajh was an unusual circumstance in Dabo's tenure, and doesn't necessarily reflect the attitude of the coaching staff in these cases going forward.

boyd was never pulled when the game was in jeopardy b/c.....

Sep 9, 2014, 2:25 PM

cole stoudt was his backup

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

when would you have pulled Boyd in the last 2 years?

Sep 9, 2014, 3:46 PM

The only games I can think of are FSU last year and maybe South Carolina in 2012 (I think any poor play that year was more due to bad pass protection). Other than that, the guy played his butt off.

Questions like these are always silly...

Sep 9, 2014, 3:43 PM

Many times, a guy starts out the year as a back-up because there's a lot of separation between him and the starter. That was the case for Boyd in 2010, and I think we can assume it was the case (probably more so, given how good Boyd was) for Stoudt last year. Remember, Boyd didn't come in when a game was anywhere near on the line in 2010 until the USF bowl game. However, that didn't mean Boyd wasn't any good, and it doesn't mean that Stoudt isn't any good.

Besides, there was only one game last year where Boyd really didn't play well, and that was the FSU game. Guess what? Stoudt came into that game and led a TD drive, even if the game was out of hand at that point.

Basically the controversy, which is only a controversy among the fans, was started by Swinney being willing to play Watson, but not to put him into the toughest situations right away. Fans can't seems to handle that, especially when they saw their team lose the first game and the back- up is a much anticipated player.

"Clemson has been historically better than Carolina. That's pretty obvious." - Classof09

"No one knew we were overhyped until the season started." - Classof09

Will Proctor managed to do it

Sep 9, 2014, 4:13 PM

If Will Proctor could go into FSU and get a win for us then I think Cole has just as good a shot.

Anything can happen with an odd shaped ball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Win or lose at FSU, it won't be the QB, it will be the line.***
