I was wondering why he didn't get more reps in real, serious games last year since he had 4 games to give and still keep his redshirt year. But what do I know?
If it had been me, I may have been gone to where they seemed to need me more. After all, being treated as "needed" is very important any capable player.

I think last year was kind of a weird one.

Coaches felt Vizzina just wasn't quite ready to go with the game on the line, so they had to give the backup reps to the guys who had been around a little longer. We'll see, but I doubt it's a lack of talent or potential that kept Vizzina off of the field last year. I know it had to be frustrating for him, and I hope he sticks around as well.

When he got here as a 17 y.o., he looked really awkward out there

Did you see his few throws in Spring game last year, he did not perform well. He played in a Church league in Bama, and his videos were better in his Junior year, so I am really impressed at how much he has improved and all of his motivation to get better.

rock. All the way back to 2011, at least, when Dwayne Allen used the term in an interview following us ending Auburn's unbeaten streak. And I quote, from Dwayne:

“Fat Boy feasted,” Allen said. “He was so calm in the pocket today, talk about a leader. I looked back at Fat Boy and he was smiling the whole day. That’s a good sight to see. When your quarterback is confident that gets everyone else excited.”

The “Fat Boy” nickname comes from a weigh in last season where Boyd weighed in at over 240 pounds on his 6 foot 2 frame. After shedding some weight in the offseason, Boyd proved Saturday that he could run the football efficiently and lead his team to victory.

Offensive Coordinator Chad Morris couldn’t be more pleased with the performance of his quarterback Saturday and how quickly he’s seen Tajh improve throughout the season.

Now, the weight may have been shed, but the nickname persisted. So, try again.

You know it's 2024 and if something isn't offensive, the offense can be generated.

I think this may be one of the better stories and posts that David has written. It's a microcosm of what's happening across all sports and the newer generation of athletes. Something that hasn't been discussed much.

By and large, pick any sport at Clemson or any big college, and you have athletes who come to college and have started and/or starred at their respective schools. They've been coddled and been "the guy, or gal" growing up. Been told how great they are.

As a coach this has to be identified in the recruiting process now more than at any other time in sports. Because these kids have others whispering in their ear that they can transfer here or there and be the girl or guy and play right away.

Dabo does this better than any coach I've seen. It's why he's said, they spend more time trying to talk a kid into not committing than to commit. Some of our more successful coaches are adapting that approach as well. It's how do you keep them engaged and practicing, and participating.

I've noticed that coach Kwolek and coach Bakich seem to adopted the same philosophy. Give players some playing time, keep them engaged. Recruiting people that understand exactly what level of commitment it's going to take.

Maybe there's something to be said about having jv sports.

Great perspective. I believe DJU is a prime example. He was anointed the best ever in probably about 6th grade. He was bigger and stronger than anyone else at that time. He had offers from major colleges earlier than anyone I had ever heard of. He didn’t have to work and I believe he didn’t learn to work. But when he got to college others had caught up to him and he wasn’t the best ever at that level. But he had been told he was all his life so he still believed he should be treated as such. And I agree, one of the toughest jobs for coaches recruiting players today is identifying players who have been affected like this and avoiding them.

He was a backup at St. John Bosco at first and had to work really hard to earn a spot as the starter.

We’ve seen for a few years, I’m honestly not sure that bringing in a top QB and putting him on ice for an entire year is much of a skill building exercise.

Edit: I accidamentally gave you a TD. Meant to give you a TU. I havent given a TD in forever, and a handful in 20 hears of membership, and I hate to break a string this way.

I am not looking for anything from V. Coaches took one look and iced him, and no one has said anything positive this spring. Seems to have Hunter Johnson written all over him.

And another thing. I dont expect to necessarily beat UGA, but if Cade looks like the Cade we know and love, by the first half I'll figure the offense will be a replay of last hear, with maybe fewer vomit-all-over-ourselves games, which would lead to a good season, but just that.

I am not quite that pessimistic, actually. Not quite.

I agree. He was highly recruited by a lot of schools including Alabama. We need to see what he is. I know Cade is the starter but maybe Vizzina is better . Who knows? I know the coaches see them on practice but let’s see him in a game even in blowouts. The problem is we haven’t had many blowouts in a while against any opponents that are good.

He could have played in 4 games and still redshirted...

Wouldn't that have been valuable learning experience? Why waste them on Paul Tyson instead of the guy that is supposed to be our next starting QB?

Because as a teenager, Dabo made a promise to Bear Bryant's widow that if he was allowed to walk on at Alabama, and if he ever became the head coach of a Power Five football team, he would put her great grandson on the football team, even if it meant taking a roster spot and a scholarship from a player that would actually produce. That's the kind of man Dabo is.

But Tyson is a walk-on and is not on a football scholarship. And regardless, nothing you just said has anything to do with getting game reps over Vizzina.

If he hasn't ever played in a real game, how is he getting interview time. Wasn't there a Dabo rule that stated no interviews for players that haven't ever played in a regularly scheduled season game?
