Shipley is all about attention right now. I mean, he's said he isn't transferring and I'll take that at his word.
The fact that he's leaving going to the NFL open is a bit if a joke IMO. I really don't think there is much to be had for him there other than an opportunity. I also if I'm honest don't know what playing another year of CFB will do for his NFL prospects.
I don't suppose anyone owes an announcement for returning for another year but this seems like he's enjoying the attention and will make some grandios statement about returning once 10000000 agents tell him he ain't getting drafted in the first 5 rounds.
This statement by a recruit might very well have been an attention plant by Willy.

and not only that, but had a good game.
Given all that opting out, etc...has become, why would we be disparaging a guy for NOT declaring for the draft prior to the bowl game and/or not being decided yet. Not that many years ago, no one really announced until after bowl season.
Having Shipley and Mafah is an "embarrassment of riches" and I sure won't be upset if they are both back next year!

For the exact reason you stated: He played in the bowl game. He's not a dumb kid; he has to know the NFL RB situation now and his draft stock. Feels like this is just getting dragged on for discussion, but that's just my opinion. Probably not worth much.

his options...probably is leaning towards coming back. I'm sure hurting his knee on that return is going to impact his decision.
I think we should be celebrating that he said he isn't considering the portal. He's either coming back or going pro. My guess is he could make a lot of $$ in the portal.
Rogers is a nut, so I don't see the comparison to him at all.

"Clemson junior RB and leading rusher Phil Mafah says he still hasn’t made a decision on whether he’ll return for his senior year in 2024 or declare for the NFL Draft. Something he’ll focus on after the Gator Bowl. Not connected to Will Shipley’s decision, he says"
Man, what an attention whoar.

He gets a shot and possibly gets cut and put on practice squad. In no way should he go pro.
If I were him I would shop around for more NIL money for next year.

The question is, would playing in college another year enhance his draft

status? If that's likely, he should stay; if not, and he has hopes of playing in the NFL, he should go.
Shipley has had a very productive, highly visible career so far. He is a known quantity, and the NFL knows exactly what they would be getting. I don't see another year of college ball improving any of that. Therefore, I think he's gone if he's being projected as getting drafted.

The writing is on the wall that Mafah is RB1 and will surely be featured more next season. Ship's college star is as bright as its gonna get right now so if he's dead set on the NFL, now's as good a time as any.

IMO, his stock went way down this year with the fumbles. If he fixes that, keeps up with the good pass catching (crucial for NFL), and improves pass blocking, I think he'll be in much better shape.

Shipley. It's not like he's new to the scene or has had limited PT. He's been the feature back at Clemson University for a couple of years now. Scouts don't need to see him play another down in college to do a thoroigh and complete evalution. A great year at Clemson in 2024 would do very little to improve his draft status, and I agree a bad, unproductive year or one that is injury riddled could possibly hurt him.

The problem with that article is that we have no idea if HBS knows for sure

or is making an assumption. I'm not sure Shipley knows for sure, to be quite honest. I really don't think he is seeking the attention (like some of you say) as much as he just can't make up his mind. That said...at no point in his career did I see him as a first-round pick. At his best, and given the fact that the league doesn't place a premium on running backs and hasn't in a long time, he was a third or fourth-round pick at best. Solid enough, just not dynamic in NFL terms. Clemson people always thought Etienne was worthy of his draft slot, but the rest of the world questioned even THAT pick. Worked out for Travis, but I'd argue that he IS a dynamic back and he's proven that. Shipley impresses me as a guy who might stick as a special teams guy, but I have my doubts it would be as a kick returner. The straight-line speed that the league covets just isn't there.

However, being a radical realist, it's possible that and knowledge of Ship leaving is part of recruiting this kid.
I'm not placing a bet.

Hevin Brown-Shuler is a defensive lineman. I mean, I GUESS he could have said "Sure Dabo, I'll come to Clemson if you get rid of that annoying Shipley guy" but I sort of doubt that would have been the case.
