When did the SEC/Media lovefest begin?

It was a grassroots effort after Auburn got shut out

Nov 12, 2014, 2:30 AM

(and rightfully so) of the 2004-05 Championship Game.

They started the "Auburn had such a tough schedule playing in the SEC," crap. The SEC got the benefit of the doubt after that, and they capitalized by winning seven straight. Some of these were very close, some were blowouts, but somewhere in there it just became dogma that year-in and year-out, the SEC is the toughest conference. It will take several years of other conference teams winning championships and bowl games for us to break the cycle. They've used the coincidental timing of their rise with the overall rise of college football to grab a #### TON of money.

The anti-SEC arguments would hold a lot more water if

somebody had actually beaten them in a meaningful game somewhere during that stretch. They were the best conference over that stretch, and the only team they ever got into a title game that didn't belong there was Bama in 2011.

this is a fair assessment. however, I would

Add that in all those years the conference was as to heavy as any other.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

When Saban and SOS joined the conference. Bama won immediately therefore

Forcing the West to scramble to keep up (Cam Newtons $$ bid, Ole Miss recruiting "success", etc).

Along the same time, here comes Tim Tebow . The love fest in the east turned to Florida, then quickly back to the hopes that SOS' s chicken would be in ATL every year to play Saban. Problem was, despite every team in the East getting progressively worse, SCAR continued to win 10 and 11 games but failed to make it to Atlanta but 1 measly time.

ESPN is over it though. ..hey have you heard how good the West is?

Re: When did the SEC/Media lovefest begin?

I would say it was more/less after they won their third consecutive national championship. After that, analysts started to give them more and more of the benefit of the doubt, which I'd say is deserved. However, at this point it's gotten to be a bit far. Anytime Kentucky or Arkansas plays someone like Bama or Auburn close, analysts say "well, hey, Kentucky is [í]wayyyyy underrated...they're a quality squad!" They're not.

We need FSU or someone else to win the national championship this year so some of these analysts will back off a bit and start acknowledging that while the SEC is the best conference in the nation, it's not that far ahead of the Pac-12, with the Big XII coming in a bit behind that.

How is it that the Big12 is behind the SEC ? Mizzou , a middle of the road B12 team has been in the SEC for 3 years , and is about to play in the championship game for the 2nd straight year. Yeah , that is one tough conference they have there. Lol

A couple of things...as much as I like to laugh at all the SECers who talked about how Mizzou and A&M wouldn't win a game in the SEC, let's not pretend Mizzou was a middling team. A couple of years before moving into the conference, they went into the Big XII championship ranked #1 and undefeated. They've been a good squad recently, though not elite.

This year, they're probably the second best team in the East, and let's not pretend the East is anywhere near the West. The East is not very good at all, while the West is packed with very good teams with the exception of Arkansas.

I think it is due to CBS...

Nov 12, 2014, 7:36 AM

CBS does such a great production of their football games and all sports in general (see The Masters and Final Four) that it sways ESPN and AP voters. CBS production of the SEC game of the week blows everyone away with slow motion, cheerleader and mullet walmart fan shots. My favorite old 80's Clemson games on TV were on CBS. CBS has the whole country thinking the AFC is far superior to the NFC as well. Just my thoughts. I wish Notre Dame would join the ACC in football and share the NBC TV deal. NBC could do a good job of pumping up Clemson/GT, FSU/Miami & other ACC games that ESPN doesn't appreciate.

Ooof, good luck trying to get Notre Dame to share their TV deal. I think any deal with NBC would be separate from ND, even if they became a full member. They're just that far ahead of every other program in the country when it comes to national attention.

However I 100% agree that it would be a great move for NBC to make a move for a TV deal.
