Pretty exciting last few laps

Oct 31, 2022, 7:16 AM

Bell had to win on a late pass for the lead to get in and of course Chastain’s craziness

Been hearing how durable this generation of car is. Saw it yesterday.

These young drivers aren’t afraid to put on a show

I think Dale would be embarrassed

By a guy making up 5 places in a corner by driving like a 12 year old playing a video game with the damage turned off.

He would have run them into the wall

that he did not think of it first.

It was bowling with the gutter bumpers extended

Oct 31, 2022, 7:36 AM

On a race track. I agree with Kyle Larson’s assessment.

Hamlin, the guy that got knocked out by the move

Oct 31, 2022, 7:41 AM

was kind of in shock, kind of trying not to laugh, kind of pissed, all at the same time in his post race interview

Gotta admit, more interesting than watching someone who’s already clinched the championship win by 15 seconds

Oh I'm not saying it wasn't interesting, I agree there.

Oct 31, 2022, 7:56 AM

Hemingway described bull fighting, mountaineering, and auto racing as the last remaining "real sports", and said "all the rest are just games".

By the criteria he was using, primarily the likelihood of perishing if done incorrectly, NASCAR has fallen off that list. I'm not saying it wasn't fun to watch, but it was a low skill joke of a move. Those cars are basically high speed bumper cars at this point.

Mexico was a bit of a snoozer, but if the guy who won had even touched a wall, his day would have been over. It took 71 laps of skill.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No argument there

Oct 31, 2022, 8:33 AM

Unfortunately skill doesn’t always equal entertaining

Otherwise rally racing would be on NBC

you wouldn't find this entertaining on modern HD TV with full camera and drone coverage?

He'd probably lose his head about this.

No respect for round tracks.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was awesome. Martinsville is honestly a boring track

Oct 31, 2022, 8:38 AM

from a speed standpoint. It's good from a strategy and technique standpoint. But avg speed is less than 90mph.

That he was able to go 70mph faster along the wall is amazing.

Loved it. Loved. It.

Here's the best angle:

lulz.....video game driving.

Oct 31, 2022, 8:40 AM

Literally: ""Oh, played a lot of NASCAR 2005 on the GameCube with (younger brother) Chad growing up," Chastain said. "You can get away with it. I never knew if it would actually work."

Agree with Larson completely.

"It’s just a bad look," Larson told reporters, via NBC Sports. "I’m embarrassed that I did it at Darlington. Maybe if I didn’t do it last year, people wouldn’t even think to do that, so I’m embarrassed myself and glad that I didn’t win that way (at Darlington). It’s not just a good look. Not a good look. … It’s embarrassing.

"I guess I’d ask you guys, what makes that not embarrassing? If you think that’s fair, why would you think that’s fair?"

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disagree. Today's kids, that's all they know. And let's not

Oct 31, 2022, 8:47 AM

forget, during the lockdown days they actually televised Neckcar drivers racing on video setups.

The line between real life and video games is blurry and going to get blurrier if Zuck has his #### way.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg2016_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My point isn't that he tried the move, so much as

Oct 31, 2022, 9:29 AM

the move worked with apparently no penalty from the rules nor from car damage. He made it work once, cool. Now either:

a) they need to stop making the cars so tank-like that you can drive penalty-free like a bull in a china shop

or

b) They need to make that move illegal, like cutting a chicane on a road course

because otherwise that's how 75% of races are going to finish going forward.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

75% like that? From your lips to G-ds ears!

Oct 31, 2022, 9:49 AM

Would make neckcar 1000X more watchable.

But actually, can only do this on short tracks. Would not work at Dega.

Sign. Me. Up.

Yep.

Sorry for the butthurt, but legends do what is necessary, and legal, to win.

Don't like it, then make a rule against it.

I know nothing about NASCAR, but I find

Oct 31, 2022, 8:46 AM

the debate interesting as an outsider. It's hard for me to say he did something wrong if it's within the rules, and he didn't put anyone else in danger.

Now, if NASCAR needs to do something to protect drivers from themselves with a move like this, they should. Some people are saying they're going to quickly make this illegal going forward.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Reminds me of the "unwritten rules" arguments in baseball.

Oct 31, 2022, 8:52 AM

Which usually comes down to how old the arguer is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I imagine they will make it illegal.

Oct 31, 2022, 10:04 AM [ in reply to I know nothing about NASCAR, but I find ]

But it isn't as of now, so it's fair game. Only reason I can see for a new rule is it will get dangerous on short tracks in the last laps if a bunch of drivers try and do this.

Side note, I doubt even Maverick and Goose could pull more G's on a bank turn in a F-14 Tomcat, than he pulled on that stunt. Had to be a crushing lateral G force in that car.

Oct 31, 2022, 10:20 AM

Dale was in my dream last night. I was at a race w/ Pops (RIP) and he was banging cars w/ the old #3 wrangler chevy haha.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We can debate the morals or whatever on this one

Oct 31, 2022, 10:22 AM

but IMO that was one of the most badazz things I've ever seen in racing.
