With the Tigers down 24-14 entering the fourth quarter, quarterback DeShaun Watson led Clemson on two long scoring drives to take a 28-24 lead. But Alabama answered with Jalen Hurts’s 30-yard touchdown run, setting up the most dramatic final drive in CFP history: a nine-play, 68-yard march that ended on Watson’s two-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Hunter Renfrow with one second remaining. Watson finished with 420 passing yards despite taking numerous big hits, with 58 of those yards coming on that final madcap drive in the most memorable CFP final of them all.
