Of the few loses over the past 5 years, how many have been to teams with transfer QBs. High profile, talented QBs. It’s bull$hlt that Clemson won’t even take a WR that can boost the room while guys like Stellato occupy a scholarship and can’t take a snap. Dabo knows he better beat ND and Transfer U at home.

Stellato will soon be an afterthought after Tyler Brown settles in. Kid has Antonio short area quickness, but with Peter Warrick/Sammy Watkins fluidity and burning top end speed. He will pick teams apart with jet sweeps, bubble screens, and underneath jailbreak screens. He really looks like a Percy Harvin type athlete. I hope Riley is smart enough to get him and Antonio on the field at the same time. He will be a Clemson superstar by the end of year two. Such an upgrade to the WR position. Cannot believe he was just a 3 star.

Question for you. If Clemson loses to FSU, or ND and USuC again, will you admit it’s time to take transfers to get better at positions of need? Transfer skill players have played a HUGE role for teams that have beaten Clemson lately. Did you realize this was happening? Is your head buried in the sand? And yes seeing Hartman at ND is slightly triggering for me after last season.

Well said sir because if transfer u does beat Clemson that will open up a big can of worms for coach ...heaven forbid we lose 2 straight to the coots and golden knobs ...I don't like the portal at all but I also see the flip side these kids that go in the portal are getting hugh money thats the only reason Hartman left Wake.

I guess you don’t have an auto quote for every question. Actually losing to FSU will be huge, not because of it being rare, but because the optics of losing to them at home will shine a huge light on Dabo’s refusal to adapt to the times. It’s a battle of philosophy. Dabo has way more to lose than corn rows does.

I don't believe we will lose to FSU. The difference between you and I is, I will let the coaching staff make the decisions while I sit in the stands and cheer them on. I believe we beat FSU but, if by some chance, we were to finally lose to them, I would not give up on our team. You on the other hand, are already looking to give up and make excuses before the season starts.

The flip side is Louisville, GT, Nancy St and many others load up in the portal but are still crappy teams so perhaps the portal is not the answer. A HS player takes months to choose a school but folks knew Hartman was ND was the destination before he entered the portal which means tampering and upfront payments. Both against the rules

If you can recruit, and keep, 4 and 5 star players there is not much need for the Portal. Dabo knows what he is doing.

Yup. The Portal is just going to keep on growing. Ohio State was very resistant to bringing in more than one or two per year. Their football slogan is “Developed Here.” It would seem a little disingenuous to then bring in a bunch of transfers. But if you can bring in proven quality players at an area of need, you go for it. What if Clemson had a championship caliber team, but the linebackers were not up to par, they needed a tight end, and the starting right tackle was a liability? If better players are available in the portal, doesnt Dabo owe it to his team to put the best possible players on the field. its a hard transition. I was very resistant to it. Things change

The way OSU recruits I would think they would have depth at almost every position, pretty much a 4* backing up a 5*. It would take quite a run of bad luck with injuries in a particular position group to seem to warrant a portal player.

This question,”why not take a transfer”? Has been asked of Dabo and answered by Dabo, many times.
The answer is, according to Dabo, when he offers a scholarship he is committing to that player. THAT commitment DOES NOT come with the caveat of “I’m committed to you UNLESS someone better becomes available. You say that is bs, Dabo calls it 2-way loyalty. That’s it.

As always, there's zero nuance from every side here. It's either Stellato sucks and Dabo should use the portal or Dabos a 2 time national championship coach so every decision he's ever made is correct and everyone here should shut up and eat their doritos and watch.
Like coaches are human dude. Yes, I trust Dabo. And at the same time Dabo isn't perfect. He will tell you that. Some of yall are hilarious. I personally don't like the portal, but there are going to be times where it's needed. I also think what I love about Dabo is also what hurts him sometimes. He's super loyal, and loves giving opportunities to guys he sees himself in, the underrated walkon type guys. But everyone isn't Hunter Renfrow. You also need bigger jump ball guys and very fast burner type guys. Hunter doesn't catch that rub route at the end without Mike Williams catches and Jordan Leggetts catches. Having Cole Turner, Stellato, and Spector on the field isn't going to win at the level we want. You could maybe have one of those guys out there at a time.

My personal opinion is we are going to get outspent in recruiting by the bigger programs and that gap is only going to grow. We are going to have to find other ways to attract recruits and make parents comfortable that their sons will have a chance to perform and play. In our culture, we do that by developing our players rather than replacing them with a portal player if they aren't developing as quickly as we would like or, not giving one of our recruited players a chance to play when a starter gets injured.
Many of our players have commented about Dabo's commitment to them as recruits and how that does make a difference compared to other programs when picking a school to play for. I do understand the portal is another avenue that might be worth pursuing when certain needs arise but I am comfortable with the winning culture Dabo has established and proud we have a man of conviction leading us.
BTW, I also think Brownell is doing the right thing for his program in using the portal because of how difficult he has it in trying to recruit players out of HS. Both programs are doing what they need to do for their very different situations.
