Would've finished 15-0. First team to ever do that in college football history.
Since 2014 we only loss 5 games and freaking Pitt is one of them...
UGA, FSU, GT, bama, Pitt...

Played flat a lot that game and before. We were almost down 21-0 on them if you remember. They obviously brought what was likely the only game plan that could beat us. Tough loss but I truly think they were a different team afterwards. What's funny is both games we lost (Pitt and Alabama yr before) we scored 40 +puts

1) Defense did not adjust to them overloading areas of the field they attacked 2) Pass interference calls that went against us that helped them score 4x (3 were iffy or wrong) 3) Pass interference calls that were "no calls" that we didn't get 4) Interceptions , turnovers killed us

1. Pitt Coach had a good game plan that was predicated on taking advantage of our attacking defense.....and they executed it well. 2. We did not adjust to the Pitt game plan very well. 3. Pitt RB is a beast and played like it. One of the most underrated players in the country in my opinion. 4. Pitt QB played the game of his life.
That's all it takes. They beat us, kudos to them.

... in the fourth quarter. Convert one of them and we ice it. However, as many have stated, I think it was the dose of mineral oil the team needed to straighten them out for the remainder of the season.

That's easy to say but I wouldn't be so sure of that. They weren't as focused before the loss. The loss changed their mindset and put the players back on track. I'm sure had we lost to NC State then we wouldn't have lost to Pitt. Coaches and players even stated that after the loss, the effort they've seen in practices was like no other.

not just show up. We did that twice this season against Pitt and NC State. Our luck ran out the second time, but it taught us to play no matter whom the opponent was.

Losing to Pitt was the best thing that could have happened. We win that game I don't think we go on to win the national title....

I couldn't agree more! Dabo's message was that prosperity is a terrible teacher. You sometimes have to taste disappointment to appreciate how good winning feels and what it takes to ensure it!

I'm glad it was Pitt instead of NC State that beat us. State would have just been a little too close to home and too regional. Too much interaction with State on a yearly basis.

Not sure we would have won the National Championship had we been undefeated in the regular season. We didn't play hungry until after the Pitt game.

With the 2016 national championship ours forever, I wouldn't

change one single bounce of any football in any game involving all 124 teams during the 2016 season. I wouldn't do anything to change the way the winds eventually blew. I consider the Pitt game a very important part of the 2016 team's national championship story. Without that loss and the motivation it may have sparked, how would we have finished? It also probably helped us to know that we could be in a back and forth game like that where the offense just keeps on keeping on.
It sounds weird to say, but the evening of that loss I remember thinking that it took one of the best offenses in the country all they could possibly muster, and 43 points to beat us by one. I realized that night just how hard it was going to be for someone to beat us.
Another thing about that loss on the schedule is that it says our guys didn't give up, or quit and get down on themselves and start pointing fingers at each other. They got up off the mat and kept on fighting until that moment at 12:20 a.m. in which you could almost hear Cosell saying "Down Goes Frazier, Down Goes Frazier" or rather "Down Goes Bama, Down goes Bama".
Lastly, it is now living proof that Clemson doesn't have to be undefeated to make the college football playoff, or to be national champion. That is a myth SEC teams would love to have been able to use in recruiting. They would love to say that an ACC team will never sniff the playoff unless they are 12-0.
I look at the Pitt loss as a battle scar on a great team that persevered and made history. And as for Pitt and Pitt fans, I take my hat off to them for their effort and accomplishment on that day in Death Valley. They deserve to take pride in their special place on our national championship season.

how did OSU lose to VT in '14; how'd bama lost to Swag & Co. in '15?

All 3 champs, all 3 with one bad home loss. Answer - it is hard to sustain the intensity for 15 weeks.
There's only been 1 undefeated NFL team that won the SB. And that was in another era.

lost one later if not that one, and maybe one more important. Team got to believe they were just too good to actually lose. Pittsburgh woke them up...luckily at the right time.
Again, our season was charmed.

So we threw about every down, 70 times. We had alot if big plays and scored, but the didnt have drives of any length. You throw it that much, your bound to have interceptions. The d was constantly on the field and got wore out. Pitt had a perfect game plan. They knew they would give up points, buy it put their offense in a position to win. Plus a bunch of mistakes... players and coaching. We could have just sat on the ball at the goal line and won.

resulting in 28 of Pitts.pts. all 4 penalties would have been overturned on review.but their offense had several long plays with shuttle passes
