I know we are only one game in and Binghamton is not likely a regional quality opponent, but we only struck out 3 times yesterday. That tells me the talk from the players and coaches about team first ball and throwing out twitter swings is real.

By comparison, we averaged 9.64 strikeouts per game over last years season. More than a third of our outs were not even making contact.

A more accurate comparison, in the first game of last year we beat Indiana 9-0. Our team struck out 17 times! We had one player with 5k’s by himself!

It is still early, but this is the direction I believe we needed to head many years ago under Monte and he just wouldn’t adjust.

I am very optimistic the Tigers play winning baseball this year. Put the ball in play and make the other team make plays. Be aggressive on the base paths. Play solid defense. Have solid pitching.
Hopefully the swing for the fence mentality has been replaced with a score runs mentality.
