With zero snark or sarcasm, I think that's relief that it's

over.

I don't recall seeing many people looking more consistently miserable doing something than DJ did playing football. I really think he's relieved.

Folks on here called me out when I posted about DJ wanting out of competitive sports altogether after his Dad left the family and DJ had that disastrous showing against Georgia las year, when I was told on good authority that Dabo and DJ’s mom talked him into staying and that they would take it one game at at time. DJ had told them he felt obligated since middle school to make his father happy. I fully believe he didnt have his heart in this and he was going through the motions because Dabo convinced him the team needed him, and to an extent they did. There was no legitimate backup last year and Cade was indeed no ready at the start of this year. I do believe that he was relieved on the sideline when Cade took over. Now, Im not sure if he still feels the same, or if he wants to try a fresh start somewhere with less pressure, but I do feel your observations are spot on.

I totally agree. To me, it seemed like the weight of the world was lifted off his shoulders and now he can go on with his life. Maybe there are greater things in store for DJ than playing football. He just does not seem suited to handle the position but seems perfectly setup for a wonderful life outside football. Seems like such a great kid!

DJU is a great person 1st and a great QB as well. There's a lot of teams whose QB didn't lead them to a 10 win regular season. He also knew the whole season how good Cade is but that he was undersized and needed strength conditioning...so DJ did his job amid all the criticism from so-called fans while taking the verbal & physical hits to allow his young understudy to develop to the inevitable point where he would replace him as the starter.

DJU did all of that for the good of the TEAM and for the future success of CLEMSON!

DJ is a CLEMSON MAN through and through, and I'm very proud of him and his dedication to our Tigers.

It’s the unexplainable coach’s decision to drag this young man into the mess. Not good for this young man as well.

let him play one down against the coots even if DJ only had three pass completions beyond the line of scrimmage the whole game. You just can't take a chance like that when you are in a close game...like yesterday

Dec 4, 2022, 3:20 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Uiagalelei still all smiles, happy for his teammates in postgame celebration ]

A nice fable. But reality tells a different story. There are many Freshman QBs playing in-condition and doing well across the spectrum.

Cade wasn't paired with 1st string until well into the season after fall camp was over. He never got playing time as backup at the level of any other freshman backup since Schussler. He had 17 QB options for pass/rush up to the single pass vs ND. No touches vs SC.

Streeter has no real stats to say to Dabo that Cade wasn't ready. Tonite showed given an even chance he was set to ball. Practices went well but DJ was the guy period. Most teams don't stick with a faulty inconsistent QB just because a freshman is new.

We saw Hunter Johnson out there tonite to finish off the trash time. He got only a little time this year. Again, if DJ was struggling there were options not honestly taken.

DJ on the field looks like a deer in headlights. And no killer mentality. Even the Freshman for NC as young as he is looks more poised than DJ. I think comparatively, DJ was never fully plugged into these games... reminding me of Forrest Gump... hand him the ball and tell him to run... except in DJs case he takes to long to make inconsistent decisions.

Yes we won 11 games, yes with more TDs than last year, but inconsistent scoring placed those first 11 games mostly in jeapordy except for the perennial strong defense of the Tigers. We couldn't score vs ND and the defense was gashed and gassed. Same with SC, because of stalled drives from incomplete passes, bad screens, and special teams.

Cade might have helped both the ND and SC games if he'd had the honest experience when Tigers were up against GA Tec and puff teams early. But he didn't get hardly any opportunities. If rating Cade not being ready it's not Cade, it's Streeter and Dabo who failed to utilize him with those important early snaps.

DJ works hard, has a good off field rep,but there's no way Streeter didn't see the real difference in potential between the two. With DJ mentoring Cade this season on top of everything, I think it's clear it wasn't Cades physical condition or capability. It was just mule stubbornness by Streeter/Dabo.

I'm just happy Cade got his shot quick and turned it into an honest display of raw talent that just needs tempering with time and experience. I honestly think it wasn't a hard stretch to imagine him hitting the portal if DJ stayed in and stayed for 2023. And that would have been a more aggregious loss than any football game.

Glad we mada a safe transition, just wish it would have been one week earlier and we would be looking at a shot at a natty. With the type of energy and productivity I saw last night, we COULD play with likes of UGA and company.

I wonder if he may try baseball in the spring. I seem to remember he was highly rated pitcher and potentially wanted to try to play both sports at Clemson.

Either way, he handles himself with class and It is evident his team mates hold him in high regard and I wish him the best in the future

It was really nice to hear how DJ responded and was so supportive of Klubnik but I agree I think he's relieved. He can't handle the pressure. Great young man personally and I wish him well in whatever he decides to do but I believe we have a new face at QB. DJ has done great things over his time at Clemson not taking that away from him but something has been off these past 2 seasons. Our boys balled out lastnight and we haven't seen them that fired up in a long time! GO TIGERS!

Despite all the criticism of his on-field play, no one ever says DJ is not a prince of a human being. Of course he may find his way to on field excellence, but he probably also has (given his inter-personal skills and football knowledge) a future in coaching.

Dec 4, 2022, 5:28 PM

I have been one of the biggest “bench DJ” mouths on the boards. However, I love the person David James Uiagalelei is. I have heard “insider” reports of the psychological impact Big Dave had on DJ. The divorce was nasty and impacted DJ terribly. The way he has handled the pressure shows the character this young man has. He is a great ambassador for Clemson university. He went from all world to painful to watch. I wanted to see DJ live up to his potential. I wanted him to win the Heisman and a Natty. Three games into last season, I knew his career was coming to an end.
Maybe DJ can pursue a baseball career with us. I’d love to see him work his way into a top MLB recruit. There’s no doubt he has God given talent most people dream of. DJ needs to pursue the dream he wants for himself. Not what Mom or Dad wants; what DJ wants. I wish him all the success in whatever path he chooses. I also think DJ would make an elite tight end.
I’m excited about our football team again. I feel we have a CHANCE against anyone with CK2. Let’s go dominate the Vols again!! Go Tigers!!

DJ is a Clemson man. He would be wise to reconsider baseball. The reality is that he has had plenty of opportunity to show his talent, and he is not going to play in the NFL. But he has a tremendous arm and could be an asset for Clemson baseball, a team on the rise. He could continue as a kind of player-coach backing up Kulbnik. Everyone appreciates his attitude. He has 2 more years eligibility in baseball and I can see him making the big leagues.

DJ is definitely a class guy, and I truly wish him all the best. He represents Clemson very well. But, I am glad the page has now turned on the mediocre offense! If only Cade had come in during the first quarter against the Gamecocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
