I just don't understand.

Oct 30, 2022, 10:37 AM

PSU is an average team with a poor coach, trust me, I watch every game. OSU struggles until the 4th quarter then blows them out and all the praise goes to OSU. Clemson, OTOH, has done this numerous times beating a team late but handily and gets nothing but criticized. The OSU team I watched yesterday is no better than Clemson.

Time will tell if we both win out.

They want to feel that *average* Penn St. team you speak of is far better than 95% better than almost anything the ACC puts on the field.

The media's narrative during the regular season is SEC..a little gap..Big 10...a bigger gap..... Big 12...a little gap...Pack 12....a big gap....ACC.

Understand, the SEC (Ala. Ga. and now Tenn.) and Big 10 (Ohio State/Michigan) are ESPN's babies and big market areas. Like Mark Packer always says, "Nothing gets done, until something gets sold!"

Agree!!
Clemson not only has to beat the other teams soundly but the talking heads with the SEC bias as well. Then there is the love for the Buckeyes. (which I do not understand) Every year it seems as if they try to keep them in the conversation.

To be honest, Penn St. is probably better than Georgia Tech, Syracuse, NC State, etc.

NC State is not that good. They are average.

IT's because of being lazy by analyst.

Traditional football schools even when they are bad get the benefit of the doubt. When traditional bad schools are good they "do not" get the benefit of the doubt.

It’s easy to understand. Folks have a narrative which protects their financial interests. They will say whatever it takes to protect that narrative and their pocketbook

Please allow me this opportunity to make this observation:

If you go to any football board, at any school, all across the nation, you will find fans whgo claim that the Playoff Committee/sports anouncers/referees, are biased against their team or conference.

How can these opinions possibly match up to any real world data ??

Penn State, average?

Oct 30, 2022, 1:30 PM

They are 6-2 with some solid wins, including Purdue, Auburn, and Minnesota.

Ohio State beat them by 13.

Who have we beaten who is comparable to Penn State? I don’t think Wake, Syracuse, or NC State is as good as Penn State. I also don’t think any of those teams is as talented as Penn State.

We also didn’t beat any of those three teams by 13 points. We struggled with all of them in comparison to Ohio State’s performance against PSU.

so Judge are you a PSU fan or a Clemson fan? I have seen you for years on the McAndrew board. I was PSU ticket holder for years and my oldest is a Senior at Clemson. PSU is clearly average. Average coach, average QB. Any big boy they play will be a loss, plain and simple.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What is the McAndrew board?

Oct 30, 2022, 2:37 PM

I’m a Clemson fan, but that doesn’t require me to disparage other teams or throw objectivity out the window.

I don’t think PSU is a great team this year, but I do think they are a solid top 25 type team. I don’t think Syracuse or NC State is quite that good. We’ll see about Wake, but I think Penn State is a little better.

I still don’t see what any of this has to do with us. This whole “we aren’t respected” victim mentality here is ridiculous. We are ranked 5th in the nation. No team with one loss is ranked ahead of us. We haven’t been dominant this year and we lack the marquee wins some teams ahead of us have.

We are ranked fairly using most metrics. If you’re expecting poll voters to dig into the details in October to do advanced analysis then that is expecting too much. As I’ve been saying, let’s see what the CFP committee thinks this week, because they are splitting hairs and will come up with a detailed framework for their rankings. After all, that’s the ranking that matters most (namely, the one at the end of the season).

I would not count auburn as a solid win now 7th in the sec west and lame duck coach.
Minnesota questionable sitting 5th in big west and loss to Purdue.
Unranked Purdue best win and Franklin now 0-11 vs top 10 teams since 2016.
Myself I would take a Scrader, Leary, or Hartman over Clifford any day.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree about Auburn, but a win against them looks better

Oct 30, 2022, 2:38 PM

than a win over Boston College.

Agreed but would a win over Louisville look better? Currently ranked 53 compared to auburn 69..

Your precious Penn State committed four turnovers against Ohio State. The OP was about Ohio State not being all that great. They needed 4 turnovers to eke out a less than 2 possession win. Ohio State needed the 4 turnovers to win. PSU couldn’t overcome them. I wonder if there is a program that could possibly overcome 4 turnovers but still defeat a top 25 opponen?. I’m sure you’d describe that team as not very impressive and that victory as less impressive than PSU’s loss. But that’s because you aren’t a Clemson fan.
