I need some technical hep. I am about to get fiber optic at my country estate due to the govmint connecting all the pore chirrens out here in the country. Anyway, I have been using an old answering machine on hardline connection to monitor for power outages when I am away. It has worked well but I would like to streamline. And, also to get away from this for obvious reasons like hardline is mostly money up a hog's ayz.
I have been looking at security cameras that plug to ac power that might work to let me know when storm knocks out power. I think? I would like to go to Costco and get what would werk. Anyone in the lungerverse have any knowledge with this stuff?? I promise I will post all picture of the nekkid wemmins I record walking around the place! TIA.

IDK? But that last 600 ft. from the pole to the cabin underground was cutting our collective ayzes till after dark last knight. Still waiting on the final connection to the router. Was wundering if I could do this stuff without a cloud connection? Some days we don't have a cloud in the sky! Guess I could add the VIOP for extra monies which would be a wash when turned hardline off.

we also use the old coin on top of an ice cube in the freezer trick to be sure it never was unthawed.

Good info about Nest. Hadn't read that but souns like what I need to know.
Don't really want to find out after the fact because I'm on the end of the line and it's usually a tree somewhere between cabin an highway that they would never know if I didn't inform them. That happens every couple of years around here.

and now they run on Google Hone App. I have not checked if I am getting notified by it or the old one. Luckily it does not happen often.

And Google/Nest is the only system that I know of that records everything

but I have to make an annual payment of $150 iirc. It is on all the time, not just when it thinks it sees something.

Our Blink says when it's offline. Our NAS also alerts me.

Plus the weather station alerts me. If we're out of town and the power goes out I know the minute it goes out and comes back on.
I don't have ANY of these things to know when the power goes out, but that's a side effect I guess, they all alert me.
Likewise, if the internet goes down, same thing. Often the two go out together, but sometimes not.

Ah, weather station is more my style! Will check those. Camera might be useful to know when to water the garden.
