I mean, from what I've observed out of millennial couples in my hood, the BS "happy wife, happy life" motto has led to a lot of miserable, hen-pecked men who have their kids dangled over them as threats for divorce if they don't comply.

The far right has never really been about "family values". That's always been a myth.
Same can be said about "fiscal spending" and "law and order", and "tough on Russia". You have to give Trump credit for exposing the far right for the complete frauds that they are

I'm shocked I tell you - shocked... 🙄
This is why I never, ever, put any politician on a pedestal and find defending any politician's personal behavior to be a suckers game. I find most of the political class (party is irrelevant) to be despicable, self-serving azzhats whose character and convictions are as solid as jello. They will say/do whatever keeps them in elected office as that is the MOST important thing to them.
The days of a citizen servant who sacrifice to serve a limited time in public office are long gone. Instead we are now beholden to a two party system that is controlled by a power hungry cabal of lifelong elitist politicos. They have built a whole political ecosystem to keep them in power and have co-opted or outright corrupted most of our institutions to include the media to participate in their partisan elitist reindeer games. Life is always good for those in the political eco-system where the lobby and tax money flows freely and the protective bubble from us commoners and our pesky problems is seldom pierced.
