nothing is a good choice if you don't practice enough to become comfortable with it. My recommendation for anyone who is going to buy a handgun, shoot it a couple of times and then let it languish in the glove box...get a revolver.

I understand it will just spend its life in the glove box, but I would feel safer having one. Anderson is a rough place… knowwhatimsaying?

I'm very serious about the revolver suggestion.

Not the sexy buy, and you may intend to shoot enough to get proficient, but from the perspective of 'never fails when you need it because it's never maintained or you never found time to practice' then you can't beat them. You can always pick up a reasonably priced auto down the line if you decide to get into shooting.

I know Chicago is like that. Instant death when you step off the plane.

double stack.
Primary reason for purchase was carry while bow hunting.
But in thinking through it, it is one HELL of a "truck gun" while traveling / road tripping / going to sketchy industrial parks / methed out areas of the south for manufacturing plants / etc.
I feel like I could get out of 95 / 100 scenarios w/ 34 10mm rounds. and I carry 68 ha
Definitely not an everyday carry / could maybe conceal it if you're 6'5" 275# or bigger, but prolly not. It's huge. And real girthy.

Similarly, I have the Springfield XDS in .45 if you want a little bit more oomph

Reduced capacity vs. the 9mm Hellcat though. Ruger SP101 is another good option, it's a stainless revolver so like RH said, if it's just going to get tucked away somewhere maybe a better choice.
If you want to be a man amongst boys, look to H&K.

I have Smith and Wesson MP Shield 2.0, 9mm version. Small, compact, easy to fit in glove box. But also, if you need to, makes an easy concealed piece if you have to take it with you from your vehicle.
Holds 8 rounds plus 1 in the chamber. I keep an extra mag with it as well.
It's a very comfortable and easy gun to shoot. Despite size, the kick isn't bad. Avoid the "EZ" version; those were specifically designed for people with arthritis or other issues with their hands so they can use the firearm easier. For regular users, there are risks with the grip safety.
EDIT: My wife picked up a Sig Sauer p365 recently with a red dot site that she found very comfortable to shoot, and she's a beginner. Also a nice piece for fitting in the glovebox.
But remember, if you're in SC, you don't have to keep it hidden in the box or console anymore.

Shield or Hellcat is top of the line right now.

Don't get the .40 cal because those are starting to become increasingly hard to find now that LEO are moving away from it. A 9mm back during Ruby Ridge and a 9mm today are two completely different rounds. I never wanted a 9mm because I wanted something with stopping force. These new 9mm they have now have that stopping force.
So either 9mm or .45

Between the 9mm and the .40, so you might as well go 9mm for the accessibility of ammo.
