Because of a handful of fans. He has mentioned this before. I hope the vast majority is vocal enough that this thought never enters his mind. If he does, the crybabies WILL have something to whine about in the near future.
We won’t get another coach like Dabo.

Based on it becoming clear in the past three years that Dabo is worthless without top coordinators, which Dabo now refuses to hire for some strange reason. Dabo's non-use of the portal would also keep any top program away from him.
Dabo's future is a few more .500 seasons at Clemson until the buyout becomes manageable, whereupon he will be fired, and he will immediately become the AD and head football coach at Liberty University, which is literally the only major or semi-major college that would hire him.

Dude come on. Wake up. Dabo has severely damaged his brand right along with Clemson's with his stubbornness and arrogance and, most importantly, poor on-field results.

If Dabo leaves it won’t be because he got fired, he will step down. Unlikely that he immediately would leave for another program either.
Do I could do TV for a year, then see what bites are out there. With his program building record, undoubtedly there would be good offers available.
Even those who talk crap about him now would change their tune if he’s their guy.
The catch-22 is, nobody is taking him unless he plans to aggressively use the portal. If he changes his mind on that at Clemson, we’ll be back in the mix and it becomes a whole different ballgame. Fingers crossed…

[he threatened to leave] is a miss-interpretation to me.
He said that Clemson was different because they had appreciation with the expectation...(rant about all the good stuff accomplished)..then he referenced the current season and said he worked for the BOT and if THEY were not satisfied and wanted him gone all they had to do was tell him he was done and he would go somewhere else. (same for anybody for any vocation out there)
He is going to coach....he believes that is where God has placed him. As long as the BOT want to keep him he will coach.
all the pearl clutching about this particular conversation is a little unwarranted. but then I ain't in the 1.5% so there is that.....

I'm as Christian as you can get but this stuff just makes me sick. Dabo is at Clemson because Clemson agreed to pay him a tenth of a billion dollars to coach a college football team.
If Clemson offered him $60,000 a year and Ohio State offered him a 10 year, $115 million contract, he'd be at Ohio State quicker than Kamala Harris can blow Willie Brown.

Sounds like you are focused on being envious of his salary.
The BOT decided that was the salary he deserved based on his record versus other programs coming after him to coach their team. Everyone works for pay and it has nothing to do with the statement about him coaching. Coaching at OSU for 115 million is still coaching.
You forget that Dabo took his first raise from an extension to his contract and asked permission to distribute it among his assistants.
Dabo is not the one driving the escalated salary framework in College Football.
I dont know what your career is but if whatever you do starts escalating - you know you are not going to turn down the raise your boss gives you to stay put at your job and not go somewhere else.

I can tell you this…most of the big time programs in the country have the same expectations, namely to see a well-coached product on the field. Maybe he’d go to a smaller school and be a program-builder again? Idk. I think a lot of what he said was out of frustration and anger.

I don't want Dabo to leave, but if it reaches a point where he's regularly attacking fans and threatening to go elsewhere, he should follow up on that threat and go.
It's been a long time since Dabo faced serious adversity, and right now it doesn't feel like he's handling it well. We will see how things go over the next year or so.

After all Clemson has done for him, including:
-Giving him an opportunity to be a head coach when he didn't deserve it
-Allowing him the freedom to assemble the staff he wants
-Building him the best facilities in college football
-Giving him an unprecedented contract
-Providing outstanding fan support
For him to threaten to leave when the going gets tough and winning seems harder, and some fans don't necessarily agree with him - that's really sad and unfortunate.

I don't recall Dabo making a statement that used a threat too leave.
He said that he works under the President and the AD (of course the board)
and if they ever wanted him too leave that he would go.

This is the thing. Clemson is known for having one of if not the most invested fan bases in college football. People get really wrapped up in this one way or another. Swinney himself needs to just calm down a little and recognize that all the criticism comes because people actually care. It beats indifference.

I think he will have to clean up his mess here first before moving on. A lot in the media are questioning how much of our success was really him vs. the really good staff he brought on.
I think he is going to have to prove he can still deliver with a new staff similar to what Saban has done throughout his career.
