So...Sunday night, we're at the in-laws for dinner...

....and shortly after we get there, they put a bowl of peanuts out on the kitchen island.

I was in the living room, watching the Dallas/Philly game, w/ my back to the kitchen.

My 11yo son wanders over there, and they say something along the lines of "help yourself", or whatever grandparents say - I generally tune them out if I can.

He (who generally likes peanuts) declines politely, which raised some eyebrows....enough so, that SheGUAR questioned it.

His was response was "Because you're not supposed to", which of course brought on some more interrogation.

He then further explained that "It's No-Nut November", and by rule, "you're not allowed to eat nuts"

*THIS* is where I started diverting the rest of my attention to the conversation going on behind me.

It became immediately clear that SheGUAR must've cultivated a completely different Instagram reel algorithm than I have (which is...a good thing 👀), because she had no clue what NNN is. And to no one's surprise, neither did her 78 year old parents.

So...THEY. KEPT. ASKING. ABOUT. IT. About No-Nut November.

And he kept explaining the "rules" he'd heard about at school....about....No-Nut November....and how you're supposed to try to make it the whole month without...eating nuts.

Of course, I couldn't exactly STOP this - firstly, for lulzy reasons, but also how does one stop their middle-school son, elderly in-laws, and wife mid-conversation to be like "Oh. *No*. THAT'S not what it is..." ?

By the time I thought to try to record the convo w/ my phone, it'd wound down, and he left to go watch non-football TV (NERD ALERT), and I casually (and mostly non-verbally) let SheGUAR know what it was with a bit of gyration and gesturing...

There were lulzes, and the requisite inter-parental questioning. I'm NOT sure if she informed her parents, but I'd LIKE to think they're out there telling their church friends about their newly learned intricacies about NNN, and strategies to accomplish such a feat.

Then we had steak.
