have immediately gained more fan support and created far more fan excitement than the men's basketball program.
And there is no way to spin it...that is 100% because of the Brownell effect. Good coach or bad coach, the program is in a rut and desperately needs a new spark.
On a positive note. Women's softball and Gymnastics have been a wonderful addition and are representing Clemson very well!

Why qualify Softball as a women's sport given there is not an alternative?

Because I play men's competitive softball for local rec league and often distinguish between the two verbally.
Why be a complete jacksass on the internet about something so trivial and stupid as this?

Strange that people don’t ever mention women’s soccer. #3 final ranking. Made College Cup. Had 4 players drafted.
But yeah, unranked volleyball finished 19-14 so they get a mention.
No offense to Xander5000, just a general gripe of mine.
We had a soccer match, in Clemson, in the Elite 8 and maybe got 2000 fans to show up. Gymnastics will get a dose of reality when the new-ness wears off.

The Volleyball team battled their way to the Great Elite 8 or whatever its called but I think that was a big step especially for them. The women's soccer team was on par with the men's soccer team for a while there too though.

You are 100% correct. I was at the gymnastics meet yesterday and commented to my husband how it’s crazy we can fill LJ up for that and not basketball. There was so much excitement there yesterday. That is what’s missing from our basketball program and I agree we are missing an exciting new coach and have been for years.

and they have been this year, but we have learned not to get too excited about winning over the brownell years, because we usually ( nearly always) get let down.

For some reason, our AD just doesn't seem to care as much about the basketball programs and is content with mediocrity. It's very sad for those players - and we have some great athletes in both programs!

Like I don’t see why it’s outdrawing all our other women’s sports by so much.
Maybe gymnastics is a more popular youth sport for young girls than I realize and it’s everyone in the area coming in to watch. Guess it’s more like going to a show than a sporting event so it’s fun to bring kids

The gymnastics crowd is VERY young and mostly female. Most little girls in this area take some combination of dance and/or gymnastics during the kindergarten/elementary years, so going to an in-person meet is an amazing experience for them. The meets are all on the weekends. And it's great for the parents because the tickets are very reasonably priced at $5.
The combination of low prices and weekend scheduling seemed to help basketball attendance during Christmas break, as the $10 December basketball games were also very well attended.

Pittsburgh area in gymnastics, winning numerous local and regional awards for her skills.
I was amazed to see the fan support for her sport with virtually every meet sold-out, and the attendees a mixture of all ages and of both sexes. Even her practices brought out aficienados,
I used to take the extended family to the Isle of Palms every summer for a couple of weeks, and even as a little girl, she would exercise on the beach, performing a number of her skills. Always got a big laugh at the crowds that would gather to watch and applaud. The young boys seemed to be the biggest fans! Thus, I'm not surprised with fan attendance and fully expect it to continue. I suppose it's just something about watching someone twist, contort, leap, flip and soar through the air that makes a whole lot of folks think, "Dang, wish I could do that!" lol

Softball is a hit but the gymnastics team is so new there is no way to know how it work out when the newness wears off and we start playing better competition. I will say, our coach is very impressive and she will hopefully attract talented young gymnasts.

Same with WBB. It was sad yesterday watching Clemson WBB at VT and seeing the arena at Blacksburg packed to the rafters for women's basketball. That arena looks like a dump too- lighting is bad etc. Looks like they haven't invested nearly what CU has put in LJC. Glad to see gymnastics making good use of it.

Enough of a certain someone complaining about how poor Clemson fans only support football. With Gymnastics, you see Clemson fans will fill up Littlejohn Coliseum when there is an entertaining, energetic team putting on a show.
