piggybacking off of 19B

The Bible is a great story, inspiring many.

But that is just it, a story.

Meant to explain the inexpicable 2000 years ago.

It gives many people hope, comfort.

To this day.

I think it should have been re-written by Benny Hill.

In spite of your attitude, you will experience great joy in this life time & I will be clapping in your direction all the while.

In what way is what he said indicative of a problem?

Mar 8, 2013, 11:46 PM [ in reply to I feel much much sorrier for u that lacks a sense of humor & ]

He disagrees with you, you disagree with him, and yet his "hardened seriousness" is a "problem with humanity"?

Can't imagine how his saying he'd be praying for you would offend you in any way. It doesn't offend me that folks from other faiths think me wrong and are praying for my eyes to be opened.

And it doesn't "bother" me one whit that other folks have come to a different conclusion on matters of faith. The problem arises when the way we treat others is effected by these differences, and I don't see that indicated in his response to you.

It is a proven fact that the fact that people do not consider each other The Holy God Itself is a problem.

several dozen authors from many backgrounds, locations and cultures, over a period of over 1500 years. No one was telling one story.

The debate of literalness vs allegory is barely relevant; the entire collage is a story of God bringing the Messiah and why, and the Gospel documents are reliable or they are not. If they are, so is the rest of it, literal or allegory. If they are not, its all a ho axe.

Lets suppose that over a period of 1500 years you...

Mar 9, 2013, 1:31 AM

received packages through the mail. As you open the first few packages they seem to be without purpose. As you continue to open the arriving packages you notice that one piece seems to fit another. Pretty soon you assemble a statue using each and every piece.

Would you assume that the statue existed previously as one item? Would you suppose that all of them ended up in the same place by accident? Would you believe that one person created the statue or that each piece was created by a different man?

A God who can't and protect and deliver His word ain't much of a God.

You were born in India, you would likely be Buddist

You were born in Egypt , you would likely be Muslim

You were born in Italy, you would likely be Catholic

You were born in England, you would likely be Protestant

You were born in the USA you could be a variety of religions

None are right, none are wrong

They simply lend comfort and community to those involved

And no, I did not leave out Judaism, just not sure where to place it, not politically or geographiclly...so I shall not

Mar 9, 2013, 12:29 PM [ in reply to Let me simplify this . Lets say ]

If you were born in Africa you would be tribal.

If you were born in Russia in 1940 you would be communist.

If you were born in 1935 you would be moralistic.

If you were born in 1990 you would be relativistic.

That this happens does not define truth, or the lack of it, and it seems to me to be lazy thinking to assume it does.
