Trump was crucified in the press for his daily press conference on COVID (and rightly so most of the time). Why in the world would he have been concerned about the coverage of firing Fauci? If anything, it would have played to his base, which is about the only thing he cares about.
And I thought a good part of Trump's appeal was that he didn't care about appeasing "the left" and was willing to do what it takes to do the job. Right?

especially in the beginning, which was a symptom of the politization (by all sides) of COVID and the response.
Trump and his admin was actively complaining about people that worked for them. It was/is bizzaro world. And people lapped it up. The MAGA correlation to hate of Fauci is what makes the question valid in my mind.
I don't think Fauci did a good job on a number of points, but I also think the some of criticism is WAY over the top.

the blame. I think a lot of people hate Fauci regardless of anything regarding Trump, and for good reason. Trump and the MAGA crowd is just the scape goat for all the countries ills currently. I guess they're a convenient group of people to blame/hate. I mean, look at us here...in a thread discussing Fauci we're back to hating on MAGA people. Trump got railroaded purposely by a select few of RINO's, telling him who to select. For instance Wray.
There is/was a group of pubs purposely trying to cut his feet out from under him.
Trump had no trusted circle when he won. He went with Bush people, who we now know despise him.
But Fauci wasn't one of them. He would've been the millionth person to look at when he got in office. It just happened a pandemic hit and Fauci became front and center.
I've heard this much from some of his close circle in interviews as well. If for whatever reason he ever gets elected again, he'll know better.

That's mostly BS, but we actually did a lot of research with the 1918 flu during the Bush years and were able to recreate it. The very similar H1N1pdm09 started in the US a couple of years later.
