I've been a die hard Clemson soccer fan

Since our first good team in 1972 that attracted a lot of us to the sport. I became a soccer fan in general. I still passionately follow the tigers, but I'm completely turned off about this obsession that you can't be a soccer fan in the US unless you act like a European with the names of the teams, the jumping up and down during the games, ( oh I forgot, they're matches )flag waving etc, even wearing team scarfs in the hot summer. Soccer fans need to grow up.

When I was in school it was a very intimate group of fans. The Tigers deserve so much success, they’ve done so much over the years. I’d love too see some soccer games in Death Valley. They deserve packed houses every game.

That’s a recent thing with our students. Kind of like the “woo hoo” and whatever this new thing with screaming roar during the alma mater.
The flag waving, jumping up and down, etc. I’m ok with.

More power to them for coming to the games. It's the MLS crowd and media that is the subject of my rant

No you need to accept the game of today or move on. Fans of soccer don't need any help supporting their team.

changes over the past 60 years since my freshman days, most all of which I simply defer to our younger folks.
I come from a time when people dressed up for football games, smoked in the stands, cussed a lot, did the "Rat sh*t" cheer, packed hot, steamy Fike for basketball games, lolled around in cutoffs for baseball, wondered what in the hades was going on in soccer matches while attending, and drank beer in the tin cans after each event.
Yet, for our most popular sports, most of us were within easy walking distance from our dorms to venues...always a bonus at Clemson.
I suppose my attitude has become whatever it takes to get our fans in the stands for all our programs is OK with me, including soccer. Clemson United...kind of a nice ring to me, as we are United!

Seems to be a very recent thing. Or maybe Clemson is taking it further than most.
I attended College Cup games 5-10 years ago (when Clemson wasn’t playing), and it didn’t seem like any of the teams or fans were trying to act like they were Yer-a-pee’in.
