Dabo, Spurrier on a list for Florida head coach candidates
Nov 16, 2014, 1:41 PM
|
|
Dabo Swinney, Clemson -- He's been very successful at Clemson, winning nine or more games in four of his five-plus years as head coach, and he's been a strong recruiter, but he's never been able to get the Tigers over the hump and into national contention. That may make a job like Florida very attractive. While the Gators could also target Morris, a hot commodity as Swinney's offensive coordinator, getting the head man himself with an established track record would be the safer option.
Steve Spurrier, South Carolina -- It would be too poetic, would it not, for the Head Ball Coach to ride back in on his white horse and pull his alma mater from the depths of mediocrity before he rides off into the sunset of retirement? But Spurrier is 69 years old, his current team at South Carolina is a mess even after Saturday's win over the Gators, and the last time his name came up in a job search in Gainesville, he was asked to send in a resume -- to which he reportedly replied that if they needed to see his resume, they could look in the trophy case. It'd be poetic, but it probably doesn't make much sense for either side after all.

Don't think that is a serious list, did that really happen with the resume thing or was that just a rumor?

I've heard that for years. Supposedly they also wanted him to go through the interview process and you know he was too arrogant to do that.

I had heard the interview process thing too, along with him telling Foley to go look in the trophy case, but both seem so far fetched and I haven't ever seen accounts of them in print from anywhere other than an anonymous interweb post. ***Bonjour***.

If SOS took the Florida job because the coots beat Florida and fired Will Muschamp then that would be poetic justice I could live with.

Dabo won't leave, unless he listens to some of you "fair weather" hacks who think we need a coach that can physiologically prevent injuries somehow and go 12-0 until the end of time. Get a grip.

You mentioned the one reason Floridaprobably won't take Dabo. He has not been able to get us into National Attention. But if he does go to Florida,I hope he has better sucess at beating the coots than he has at Clemson. Keeping the ole ball coach from winning the EsecPN title would be just wonderful. Then again if Spurrier was able to get the job, maybe Dabo could start wimnning the instate rival game.

has hired in recent memory, with the possible exception of Urban Meyer.
Muschamp? Zook? Dabo's resume is much more impressive. They would do well to get someone like Dabo. I don't thinkhe would take it though.

I don't think Dabo is very high on their list, but wouldn't

he have to give it strong consideration if offered? UF is a top 5 job, CU probably more like top 15-20. The flip side? Much tougher schedule and thus a much smaller margin of error. Way easier to win enough games and have job security at Clemson. He would definitely recruit some amazing classes to UF though.

I don't think he'd even consider it. I really don't think UF is seriously considering him. He may be a brainstormed name that came up, that's about it. He has too many issues with beating Spurrier and Fisher.

Dabo or Spurrier are NOT on any list for HC in the SEC. Spurrier too old. Why the heck would FL. want Dabo? They be better off hiring David Cutcliffe. Heck, at least he can win with mediocre talent at a basketball school. If I was Fla. AD, I'd take Cutcliffe over Dabo hands down. Morris is not going to be HC at a top 30 program. He'd barely be a good replacement for HC at Dorman HS.

If SOS coached just 5 yrs @ Florida then he would have them back on top or close to it.

FSU would love to see Dabo go to Florida
Nov 16, 2014, 2:44 PM
|
|
so we can continue to have a coaching advantage over the Gators.
Muschamp, Golden and Swinney have been important to Fisher's success and that's not likely to change significantly unless their schools get better head coaches.
Dabo's record against FSU and SC are just one of the reasons Dabo would not be considered for the FL job. However, it will not be a suprise for Dabo to call a press conference to announce he's a Clemson man and not interested in the Florida HC job. Dabo strengths as a head coach include self promotion and cheerleading along with recruiting, but the recruiting strength will diminish if he continues to fail to deliver on his promises of championships. Watson could be the guy, but Dabo's not the coach.
The SC game is huge for you guys. Good luck, hope you get the W.
