Sammy punishment

I would just make him run the steps at Death Valley every morning from now until the season. I have run those steps (got in trouble at basketball camp), and that will straighten things out.

I imagine that would be tough. I wondered if NCAA rules will allow the coaches to carry out any punishment at all during the off season. They may not be able to do anything until fall camp.

However, Sammy is the face of the school right now. All of our offense recruits are talking about him. You have to come down hard so as not to lose credibility since we preach doing the right thing at all times.

He already has said that he will accept whatever punishment that Dabo hands out becuase he knows that he messed up. Also, if he were to leave and have to sit out a year, who's to say how that would affect his draft? Teams don't like seeing a kid, even one with a lot of talent, leave a school becuase they messed up and didn't want to accept the punishment for their actions.
It sends a message that the kid isn't good with authority or dicispline and many will back off of him.

but I'm saying that Dabo will almost have to considering that Sammy was arrested and all of this made national news, thank you ESPN. Everyone will be looking to see what Dabo does and he knows it.

The punishment will fit the crime. I'm sure he'll spend some extra time in the morning with Coach Batson during summer work outs. He'll probably spend a little more time with him during August camp. I really don't see any more than a 1 game suspension here. It's not like the kid is in constant trouble. Coming down abnormally hard on him because he's the face of the program is almost saying don't come down on him hard because he's the face of the program.

Unfortunatley I think Sammy should have to miss the 1st game...Auburn. He violated team rules and it was illegal. Doesn't matter if "everyone else has done it," it is still illegal.
Normally the 1st game is a "cupcake" and doesn't hurt so bad. And the "off-season" suspensions are a joke (Garcia). IMO, I think suspensions should occur against the highest ranked conference opponent at the time of the violation. If none are ranked, then it should be served against the previous years conference champion (or runner up if you are the reigning champion). That way the suspensions will really hurt and make players think twice about their action.
