memory of Bobby Bowden will ALWAYS be "Puntrusky". And, although it is a truly nauseating memory for any Clemson fan of a certain age, you have to admire the innovative genius, and the BALLS it took to call that play at that point of that game. That grasp of the situation is precisely why it worked so well. Trick plays only really work well when absolutely no one is expecting them.

What made Puntrusky so unique is that Clemson was actually warned about some trick play on a fake punt, but no one thought of playacting to the extent that it was carried out, to actually fake a bad snap over the head, etc, was a new idea at the time. It truly was a thing a macabre beauty, when looked at in that way.

I would have to rank the Puntrusky, and the Les Miles fake "holder toss over the shoulder to the kicker" fake field goal against the Spurrier led Coots as the two best trick plays I personally ever remember. Even the Old Ball Sac had to give a wry smile at the time about that one. :)

Those 2 plays and the 3rd and 8 from their own 15 yard line with less than 3 minutes in the game. Notre Dame caught Texas off guard with a pass to the tight end in the flats.

Before that play. I asked her and she said if they punt, they lose. Made perfect sense a few seconds later. I hated seeing Butler run toward us but I knew it was their only chance to win.
No chance this year though.

Go Tigers!!!
