I can't imagine he wins it with a 3.86 ERA

Snell is the massive betting favorite.

20 wins, 280+ Ks, both lead the league and pitching for the team with the best record in the regular season.

I think it will be a close vote.

Wins aren’t valued like they use to be, those couple of rough patches Stider hit right before and after the All Star break hurt his chances at the Cy Young. He’ll probably finish 3rd behind Snell and Steele. Personally i am not a fan of any player winning any type of award for best of anything if their team finishes with a losing record or doesn’t make the post season. Probably explains why I think Ohtani is the most overrated player on earth.

But baseball is the easiest "team" sport to evaluate

the performances of individual players. There's little team work in baseball, It's primarily just a series of 1 vs 1 matchups, and the performances of individual players is not impacted largely by the play of their team mates.

It's very easy to see who the best baseball players are, even when they are on bad teams. That's not the case in, say, football where the success of a player is often heavily dependent on the play of others around them and the quality of their coaching.

There’s different types of stuff in baseball, like team chemistry, your stuck around your teammates longer then you are your family for the majority of the year, and you’ll have certain guys you’ll like to be around whenever then you’ll have guys like a Trevor Bauer or Albert Belle that by the first weekend of the season your ready to kill them, or have them traded or the Venezuelan prison league. Or for something else like Perez being Maddux’s personal catcher for all them years. If I’m not mistaken Snell took off after they got Sanchez to catch him.

It’s easy to see the superstars on bad baseball teams because the majority of them are bought by the big market teams especially this year. They gobble up most of the top free agents each year, and cut corners to win big now and it blows up in their face like some get rich quick scheme. A success of a player is definitely dependent on others, unless you wanna see Ohtani hit 40 homers and with 40 RBIs in half a season before he gets hurts. Or would a starting pitcher want an outfield behind him full of Kyle Schrawbers or Corbin Carrolls. As for coaching you can look what the Rays did this year compared to like what the White Sox’s did. Tampa had 1 front line Ace and 2 other starters get season ending injuries, there arguably best position player probably really end up in a prison league this time next year, and they just keep bringing up other players and coaching them up, where in that too dumpster fire of the White Sox season saw almost everybody get traded or fired.

People who don't experience things like Faith, Community, and Teamwork are missing a key component of what makes us Human. They should listen and try to learn instead of making pronouncements to everybody else.

Agree. ERA is the most important thing in Cy Young voting.***
