HR hard talk

Jun 22, 2016, 8:37 AM

From what I've read on here from you guys' experiences, this is pretty accurate

They won't read this. They'll scan it into some OCR software

I clicked through several of those articles and they ones about rescinded job offers are very helpful.

this kind-of happened to me one time

Jun 22, 2016, 10:01 AM

I got offered a new job (engineering), accepted it with a start date......then quit my current job (also engineering), packed up and moved 350 miles to my new fresh life. I had built in a few weeks padding, as many folks do, to relax and unwind a bit, and also move at a stress-free pace.

So after I got re-situated, I was suddenly told that my new job had been "delayed" due to something no one could quite explain clearly to me, and no one could tell me when I would be able to start, or even IF I would be able to start.

What did I do? Seeing as how I was committed to the point of no return, I went and got a job on a golf course mowing grass, fixing sprinklers, and rebuilding sand traps. At just above minimum wage, made just enough to pay the rent and eat alot of peanut butter sandwiches. But I had a great time, even was able to work on my golf game a bit. I did this for 9 months, and after staying in constant touch, finally my "real" job came through. It was some fiscal year budget snafu that apparently no one involved in the hiring process was aware of. But it all worked out OK in the end.

HR is a service function. the bottleneck in our co. is

Operations.

i have a job search going on right now. The VP sent in the req. 3 months ago, my recruiter compiled a list of qualified candidates, did the screening and forwarded them to the VP for final interviews etc. She has sent follow up emails weekly for status reports.

fast forward to yesterday....... Recruiter got an email from the VP wanting status on the search. He had not even OPENED the emails from 2 months ago. He had not so much as reviewed a forwarded resume. We use google drive folders to collaborate on searches. One guess on how much activity was logged from his username......ZERO.

Yet somehow its my recruiters fault that the job isnt filled.

Incidentally, he thought the ads were still running (constantly for almost 3 months) The recruiter ran the ads for 1 week, then sent an email for approval to extend. (no answer) after two weeks, the recruiter sent another email for approval. (no answer) ads stopped after 2 week run.

HR aint perfect, but candidates should understand that HR doesnt hire. Operations hires.

I bet this VP has an absentee boss who really doesn't

give a #### about any of this so long as budgets are met and such. So, no ax to fall on his head for not doing his job.

he is "too busy"

Jun 22, 2016, 9:44 AM

well, if you would fill that open ops manager slot, you might find you arent so busy.....

But yes our VPs are all absentee. They are regional and work from home offices.
