How much I "think" Martaivs Will make by going Pro...

Jan 5, 2014, 9:29 PM

I'll need a little help this one, but I think Martaivis is making a huge mistake going Pro....the money just isn't going to be there...

Here is what I am going off of:

http://overthecap.com/nfl-rookie-salary-cap.php

Here is Andre Ellington's Contract also as another source to make a guess:

http://overthecap.com/cap.php?Name=Andre%20Ellington&Position=RB&Team=Cardinals

I am guessing MB will land somewhere in the 6-7th round if lucky....Probably on the 400-500K range...

Now the expenses:

Agent: 3%(NFLPA Max allowed)12000-15000

Child Support for 2 babies: (30%?) 120000-150000

Taxes (39%)155000-170000

Spending money left 113000-125000 (of this he has to pay for home, transportation, food, clothing, entertainment and everyone that will be sponging off of him....

Does this look even remotely close?

If so he would be a lunatic to leave......If he came back and played like he did in his last 4 games he would be a 1-2 round pick with a huge salary....

Well...I guess he was foolish enough to knock up 2 girls and get suspended.....

I hope he really knocks it out of the park at the combine and makes an NFL roster and has great success....I just get annoyed to see people with incredible God-given talent pisss it away.....

Best decision financially would be to return for sr. year.

Jan 5, 2014, 9:33 PM

CLEARLY!!!! Barring any injury. And he might be able to get insurance for that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are myriad of reasons that may trump that

Jan 5, 2014, 9:35 PM

No reason to try and second guess the only person who has all of the information and is actually making the decision.

shady lawyer who can try to find loop holes to shirk his responsibilities.

Absolutely right - his first obligation is to those two

children. What a stupid comment to say he needs a lawyer to reduce child support payments

You know what I get tired of seeing?

People believing they know what is the best decision for someone else.

Got that right!!

I highly doubt he would have left with a 6-7th grade.

You can't coach 6'5" and sub 4.4 speed. My guess is 3-4th round.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

TCI reported he never turned in his paperwork,

Jan 5, 2014, 9:40 PM

if true , he has no grade. I think he made his decision based on his obligations and I hope he succeeds.

Who knows if those numbers...

are anywhere near reality. But I do agree that he would up his draft stock by coming back and having a standout year. He could be THE MAN in our receiving corps if he came back. He should talk to Spiller before he makes the decision.

I don't disagree with his decision. I remember he had to go to Hargrave to qualify and school has always seemed a challenge. If he returns next year who is to say he is more successful with new QB. Best wishes to him and always a fan. He could have chosen a university that required less of him. But would have gained less also.

We know how the majority of guys that even make a team end up with zero in the bank (or even debt) a year or two after they are out. Agents and all the jock-sniffers are telling him he will be great in hopes they can get a piece of him. We already know MB does not make the best decisions. MB will likely struggle in all facets of his job and finances. Odds are against him.

I"m not upset at all

Jan 5, 2014, 9:49 PM

I was merely replaying to his "I'm tired of people pissing away their talents" line. I myself am tired of folks thinking they know what is the better path for another person, especially a person they do not know.

Yes..you are, or you wouldn't say "you know what I am tired?

Jan 5, 2014, 10:03 PM

Even Dabo is saying he doesn't think he should leave....are you tired of him too?

This is what forums do...discuss things....

would you care to provide us a list of those topics that we may speak of the won't make you "tired of hearing"?

LOL, I'm merely echoing your "what I'm tired of" verbage

Jan 5, 2014, 10:08 PM

You can talk about anything you want. Knock yourself out. And when I feel like putting my two cents in, I will.

I do think prevailing wisdom is that he should stay. Heck I probably think that with what I know I'd think it wisest to stay. But I don't know all the info, and nor do you. So all we can do is really wish him well.

But again, I ain't even close to upset over this.

I wish him well, maybe he will explode at some point and then be able to pull in the big bucks, but your assessment of what he will start with sounds about right.
