How is it possible that Chad Kelly couldn't beat out Cole Stoudt for backup qb?

Was Cole really that good in practice or was Kelly really not that good in practice? Because the difference in the their talent levels is night and day. One will be an NFL qb and the other struggled to complete simple slant routes.

He was competing to start, not for a backup spot at the time he got kicked out. Coaches may just have given the spot to Stoudt out of the spring because of Kelly's attitude. We definitely could've used him in 2014, that's for sure.
