How did UNC earn the reputation of being a high class, uppidy, wine and cheese fan base?

I get that they get favorable treatment from the ACC, but their fans are anything but classy. They have tons of low class, redneck fans. And while it is a good school, it's nothing close to a private, Ivy League institution.

Besides, there is nothing wrong with wine and cheese. :)

Thanks for the props Judge (at least I'll take it that way). I'd love to think we have less over-privileged, under-enthused, snooty-arsed fans than we actually do... need more of the hoi polloi to join me & my tailgate crew!

and live in NC. Most UNC fans are actually pretty redneck, and they out number the Duke fans by a lot. Go to any bar while Duke/UNC basketball game, and see how outnumbered the Dookies are.

What the real irony here is, is the fact that most of their fans are red, UNC is a super-liberal university, and has one of the largest percentages of gay students of any university around (not saying anything is wrong with that, just pointing out the irony).

As far as a university is concerned, Duke much better than UNC and as a hospital Duke much better than UNC.

Interestingly also, it cost more to go to Duke than anywhere in NC, but it is in Durham which is straight up ghetto.
