I know the lunatics, such as MTG, will probably try and get Mike Johnson fired from his Speaker job for passing this bill. But he did the right thing FINALLY. And doing the right thing should not cost him his job.
There was broad bi-partisan support for the funding, with a vote of 316-94. The Dems were 165-39, and the Pubs were 151-55.
I don't understand why it's so hard to get something passed when there's this much support by BOTH parties.
The final vote will be tomorrow, and then it will go to the Senate, where I expect it to pass with about 70'ish votes.

Hilarious. On a side note, most of the money, something like 75%, is spent on US companies. So we have that going for us. It will cost us a lot more if they lose one day and we end up going to war with Russia one day. We also have NATO allies that we have relationships with that are also spending.

It should have been passed in late 2023. But better late than never.
And yes, ultimately if we're able to bog down and/or stop Putin in Ukraine via aid packages like this, then it will save us from a future hot war in a NATO country.

The thing is, I think Russia will eventually outlast Ukraine. They have so many more men. Time will tell.

And the West has the weapons & resources to grind Russia down. Ukraine can win this war, but only if the West stays with Ukraine.
If the isolationists and the Putinists win out, then the West will withdraw support, and hand Ukraine over to Russia.

Russia just brought up a million more men to get butchered, but that's a lot of men to mow down. They are just cannon fodder though with no training. They are just throwing them out there to get mauled.

There's not a mystery. The hard right guys on here are not in favor of democracy. They're all pro-authoritarian and would cheerfully go to one-party dictatorial rule. (The actual definition of a right-wing authoritarian is in fact "Fascist", just as the definition of a left-wing authoritarian is "Marxist", but don't use those words aloud. Just as psychopaths get upset when you actually call them psychopaths, fascists get upset when they're called fascists.)
I had always believed, until a few years back, in American exceptionalism, that we were somehow different, and the far left and far right would never successfully take root here. I definitely learned my lesson. My feeling now is that they've always been with us, waiting for their moment like Morlocks peering balefully from their caves, and the Internet allowed them to find one another and metastasize like a cancer. Add in the feedback loop from right-wing "media" (actually, disinformation and propaganda) and it's off to the races. We've seen a similar concurrent rise in left-wing extremism, that's spilled completely into the open after the Hamas attack. That also seems to be driven by social media.
The only good news is that I believe the majority of Republicans and Democrats alike are getting tired of this bullsh!t and being hamstrung by the lunatic fringe on either flank. We're definitely seeing it on the House floor this past week.
