Honestly, what don't some people understand about

Jul 1, 2022, 2:43 PM

expansion. Did some of you sleep in during your Economics classes at Clemson?

Why, why, why, do I have to continue to read these outlandish theories about teams that are currently in the SEC or Big 10 and of course Notre Dame as being added to a revamped ACC.

Please ask yourself, if you had a job at an established company that was paying you $80,000/year now and you would be making $100,000/year in the not so distant future. Would you yourself, leave that job to go to a company that was going to pay you $35,000/year that had virtually no hope of long term survival. Unless you're a moron the answer is obviously not, so why, when the money is 1,000X that, would a university be stupid enough to do that?

The answer is the vast majority of folks on this site have never attended an economics class and you are 100% correct.

Class, but I digress. I think it’s 80-20 that the more desirable ACC teams will end up in either the B1G or SEC, but there is still a small chance to salvage the conference. ND is the lynchpin and pretty much holds all of the cards. I don’t think ND is as driven by the pot of gold as an average school. They have the third largest endowment in the power 5 and the largest national fan base in college sports. They have enough cache to negotiate TV contracts that will rival those of the big boys. ND is going to remain independent in football until they lose access to the playoffs. If they can be convinced that joining a conference is the only way they’ll be able to consistently get a shot at the playoff then they’ll consider joining the league. The ACC’s TV contract is an abomination and really John Swofford should be sued for professional malpractice as a result. However, if a team leaves or joins the conference it triggers an out to the contract and a new one can be negotiated. That’s the league’s only chance.
