Holding.

Oct 22, 2013, 11:59 AM

No excuses ... we got whipped.

But we also got held ... ALOT.

The holding call is the biggest problem with football today. You never know when it will be called. There are alot of phantom holding calls too.

The media jokes that "you could call holding on every play".

Then they try to describe the nuances of it ... hands inside the shoulders vs outside, etc.

If the refs aren't flagging it, is it the coaches responsiblity to get in their ear? How do different refs deal with "critiquing" the job they are doing?

I literally saw Vic Beasley get tackled on one play with no flag. I don't understand how something like that is missed.

I don't know what the answer is, but this is the most blaring problem with the sport today.

Thread to be hi-jacked for "blaring" remark in 3...2...1...***

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

We did get held a lot. I said it during the game, and I'm still saying it. It would have been a closer game without all of that holding. We got next to zero penetration the whole game, and sometimes Winston was in the pocket for like 5-8 seconds without anyone getting to him. Their o line isn't that good, and our d line isn't that bad. At one point in the game, holding was finally called and we got two sacks in a row. Coincidence? I think not.

My husband was going beserk because they would not call holding. Also some of our guys were being tackled before the ball got to them and it was not called either.

It would've been a closer game had we not fumbled the first

play and allowed the crowd to be in it. The one drive the crowd was in it Jameis folded.

You could tell the difference pressure made on Winston

Oct 22, 2013, 12:31 PM

When he had all day to throw (which was often), he looked like Peyton Manning.

When he got pressured, particular during 2 drives in the 3rd quarter, he looked like a freshman playing on the road.

I did see a lot of missed holding calls but overall I think their O-Line is pretty dominant.

Need More Eyes On The Field.

Since holding can be missed and masked they should
have an extra official on the field just to look for
holding penalties on the line of scrimmage. I think
that will make the game more clean, fair, and square....huh.

On several big completions by Winston, I remember distinctly doing a double-take in my head and thinking "wait, Grady Jarret/Vic Beasley/Crawford just got tackled on that play as they had good momentum going towards the QB"

As bad as Tajh and the offense played, I'm not sure it would have mattered. But it may have least kept the crowd in it and made it a closer game.
